We are recruiting for a Research Scientist to join a global contract research organisation providing discovery, preclinical and translational platforms and services to advance oncology and immune-oncology.
The Research Scientist will perform procedures and may provide training and mentoring for junior staff in the conduct of in vivo scientific studies for client and internal research in strict compliance with welfare, legislative, health and safety requirements and company SOPs/policies.
Basic Requirements:
• Minimum of 5 GCSE level education is require, A level or BTEC in Animal Care.
• Some relevant experience in oncology models.
• Personal Licence holder – modules A to C.
• Animal handling and husbandry.
• Welfare assessment including the use of appropriate terms for the recording of clinical signs.
• Basic surgery skills.
• Advanced skills in surgery and in life/ex-vivo tissue collections.
• Accurate record keeping for legislative purposes
• Skilled at and may provide training in aseptic techniques.
• Knowledge about the work being undertaken and with the Home Office animals act 1986.
• Proficient in the use of computers.
• Excellent attention to details and organised.
• Flexible attitude to work.
• Ability to work to tight deadlines.
Duties and Responsibilities:
• To demonstrate competency in a broad range of in vivo techniques.
• Early detection of signs of ill health/loss of condition via clinical observations.
• Understand the current expectations of Home Office legislation.
• Good knowledge of relevant methods of humane killing listed in ASPA schedule 1.
• Good knowledge of amin provisions of project licences.
• Support the culture of care under ASPA.
• To be responsible for appropriate records, including helping the establishment licence.holder to keep records of the health of the animals.
• Maybe an occasional member of AWERB.
• Supporting training on experimental procedures.
• Raise potential problems associated with the experiments and suggest solutions.
