Role Purpose

Develop, implement and maintain the Company’s Health, Safety & Environmental policies, processes, operational procedures, and standards. Ensuring best practice and championing a continually improving HSE culture within the business.

Engaging and influencing key stakeholders both within and outside the business this role includes liaising with and reporting, where required, to external regulatory bodies and ensuring we maintain high levels of compliance to employees, customers, and regulatory organisations.
A sound working knowledge of Environmental and Health & Safety legislation and an excellent compliance record is vital.

Key Responsibilities
 •  Be responsible for all health, safety and environmental matters across CMD sites, providing advice, guidance and support to managers and employees at all levels.
 •  Working alongside the Quality Manager, develop and implement an integrated health, safety and environmental management system, that is fit for purpose and positions us for ISO 45001 accreditation.
 •  Working alongside the HSE Advisor, develop, maintain and implement HSE policies, procedures and safe systems of work.
 •  Working alongside the HSE Advisor, support with investigations and regulatory reporting as required.
 •  Act as environmental lead for ISO 14001 audits, organising and ensuring any actions are addressed.
 •  Be CMD’s Climate Change nominated person and champion.
 •  Provide advice and guidance on legislative and regulatory changes specifically around packaging, WEEE and Plastics use.
 •  Control all waste records ensuring Duty of Care is maintained.
 •  Monitor and maintain CMD’s Aspects and Impacts and Legal registers for Health Safety and Environment.
 •  Own and develop the HSE database, analysing data, monitoring trends and taking appropriate corrective actions as required.
 •  Develop the annual HSE plan, ensuring alignment with the wider People and Governance and Production plans.
 •  Develop KPIs, monitoring and reporting to HSE committee and other internal and external stakeholders.
 •  Plan, control and action all internal and external audits.
 •  Develop and implement a contractor management system alongside production teams.
 •  Review and improve existing permit arrangements across the business, ensuring the appropriate training and documentation is completed ahead of any planned works starting.
 •  Develop relationships with internal and external stakeholders and partners including government bodies.
 •  Alongside the Head of People and Governance, embed a competency framework throughout the business, drafting or HSE specific training as required.
 •  Lead the Safety committees, ensuring communication is free flowing and actions agreed and completed.
 •  Support other internal or external audits as required.

Leadership/Supervisory Responsibilities

This role has leadership responsibilities.

PERSONAL PROFILE

Education / Qualification

Essential
 •  NEBOSH qualified in Health and Safety.
 •  IEMA qualified in Environment (or similar).
 •  Lead auditor qualified (preferably across 14001 and 45001 standards)

Desirable
 •  ILM (or similar), CMIOSH and/or MIEMA qualification.

Work Experience

Essential
 •  Proven track record in similar managerial role, preferrably in a manufacturing environment.
 •  Proven track record of developing, implementing and maintaining an HSE management system.
 •  Up to date knowledge of ISO certification process.
 •  Experience of reporting and liaising with relevant stakeholders.

 •  An eye for detail as well as a problem solving and a results driven approach.
 •  Ability to work under pressure and to defined deadlines
