Operations Manager - Leisure and Sports Centre

Our client is a leading independent school based in the heart of Northwood (Middlesex). They operate a state of the art Sports Centre and Sports Curriculum and are currently looking to recruit a Operations and Commercial Manager to join their Sports Centre Management team.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

Revenue Generation:

 •  Develop and execute comprehensive revenue generation to meet or exceed strategic financial targets.
 •  Identify and pursue new business opportunities, partnerships, and sponsorships to diversify revenue streams in line with the schools core values. Marketing and Promotion:
 •  Collaborate with the marketing team to develop promotional activities, events and programmes that attract new customers and retain existing ones. Sales Management:
 •  Oversee membership sales and retentions programmes, ensuring high levels of customer satisfaction.
 •  Implement effective sales techniques, monitor performance, and provide coaching to the in-house team.

Customer Experience:

 •  Continuously assess and enhance the overall customer experience, focusing on improving satisfaction levels and loyalty.
 •  Address customer feedback and concerns promptly to maintain a positive reputation. Financial Management:
 •  Develop and manage budgets, closely monitoring financial performance and identifying areas of improvement.
 •  Analyse financial reports and key performance indicators to make informed business decisions.

Facility Utilisation and Operational Management:

 •  Optimise facility usage by identifying peak hours, managing space allocations, and implementing effective scheduling systems.
 •  Working with the Sports Centre Duty Managers streamline and enhance day-to-day operations to ensure efficiency and a seamless customer experience.
 •  Support and cover “on shift” operations where required. including evenings, weekends, and holiday periods.
 •  Liaise with Director of Sport to agree pattern and level of technical support to be provided in the Sports Centre during School hours and ensuring Sports Centre Team (Duty manager and Senior leisure assistant) work patterns/rotas accommodate this.

Team Leadership and Management:

 •  Manage, lead and motivate our sport centre team, fostering a positive and collaborative work environment.
 •  Work with Human Resources to recruit staff as appropriate.
 •  Ensure all staff are aware of their relevant duties and responsibilities and undertake them as required.
 •  Keep records of holiday, sickness, and absence
 •  Complete annual appraisals and staff reviews as required.
 •  Ensure all staff receive mandatory training and that training records are kept up to date.
 •  Ensure effective communication with staff is maintained through handovers, teams’ meetings and that suggestions for improvement are encouraged.
 •  Provide coaching and professional development opportunities to enhance team members skills.

Compliance and Risk Management:

 •  Ensure compliance with relevant laws, regulations, and safety standards.
 •  With support of the Health and Safety Manager, develop and implement risk management protocols to safeguard customers, staff, and facilities.
 •  Ensure all technical elements of Pool plant Operations are fully operational and compliant.
 •  Review and update all sports centre PSOP’s and Hire Agreements annually.

THE PERSON

It is essential for the successful candidate to have the following qualifications, experience, and personal attributes:

 •  Degree or equivalent in Business, Sports Management, or related field.
 •  Proven experience in a commercial management role within the sports and fitness industry.
 •  Have or recently held a National Pool Plant operators’ qualification.
 •  National Pool Lifeguard qualification (including First Aid at Work)
 •  Swimming teacher or Fitness instructor qualification
 •  Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills
 •  Excellent analytical and strategic planning abilities
 •  Proficient in budget management
 •  Familiarity with sport facility operations and industry trends
