Job Title: Automation Engineer

Role purpose for Automation Engineer:
Working with the departmental engineers to provide engineering support across the business where required to meet identified needs and deliver solutions on a timely basis and within budget
Duties & responsibilities for Automation Engineer:
• Manage the design, specification and manufacture of process, assembly and test equipment for the introduction of new products or for the improvement of existing ones
• Management of internal projects to ensure they are achieved within agreed timeframes and to budget, providing regular updates and reports as required
• Produce required relevant internal documentation to company standards on a timely basis, ensuring accuracy
• Plan, direct and coordinate manufacturing processes within allocated parameters to ensure minimum impact and loss of production time
• Develop, evaluate and improve manufacturing methods, utilising knowledge of product design, materials and parts, fabrication processes, tooling and production equipment capabilities, assembly methods, and quality control standards
• Collaborate with Production Managers and Engineers regarding product design and tooling to ensure efficient production methods
• Liaise with suppliers to determine product specifications and arrange for purchase of equipment, materials and parts, and evaluate products according to specifications and quality standards
Qualifications & experience for Automation Engineer:
• Minimum HNC/HND level in Electrical, Mechanical or Mechatronic Engineering
• Successful completion of engineering Apprenticeship preferred
• Practical background, ideally trained as an Apprentice Engineer in a manufacturing environment
• Proven experience of working in a manufacturing environment essential
• Working knowledge of hydraulics and/or pneumatics preferred
• Understanding lean principles and continuous improvement tools advantageous
• Familiar with ISO 9001, knowledge of ISO 14001 would be advantageous.
• CAD skills, AutoCAD or 3D CAD advantageous
