Hours per week: 37 Monday – Friday, normal working hours

This opening assignment is for 3-4 months

A Mechanical Services Engineer is required to join the Building Services team which consists of Building Surveyors and Service Engineers (Electrical) and this role of Service Engineer (Mechanical). The Building Services team delivers the following: a managed building, electrical and mechanical reactive and planned maintenance contract with a single “one stop shop” contractor (currently Equans); building maintenance advice and compliance support to its in-house clients as well as to schools, academies, Culture Warrington and Catalyst Choices; a range of building, electrical and mechanical projects from under £10,000 to around £3M; a “mixed economy” approach to pulling project design teams together, using in house staff and external, private sector consultants.

Key responsibilities:

Provide guidance, specifications, drawings etc. for a range of mechanical services maintenance work.
Receive and assess planned preventative maintenance certification and associated reports.
Agree appropriate bodies of repair and remedial works to keep the council’s buildings operational, safe and compliant.
Work collaboratively with the contractor to agree costs and programmes.
Assess issues and works on site.
Agree valuations.
Commission specialist surveys where required.
Carry out feasibility work, including budget estimates.
Lead on mechanical minor works projects (e.g. boiler replacements).
Provide mechanical services engineering input to broader, multi-disciplinary project delivery (e.g. school extensions).
Provide mechanical engineering related advice and support to clients.
Support the council in achieving its carbon reduction commitments (buildings, plant etc related).

Qualifications:

ONC / OND in Building Services (or equivalent).
HNC / HND in Building Services (or equivalent).
Must be able to demonstrate holding or working towards a Chartered Membership of CIBSE (or equivalent).
Demonstrate awareness of current construction industry related H&S legislation, ideally by means of a relevant qualification.
Driving licence and use of own vehicle.

Experience:

Relevant experience in a similar working environment commensurate with the level of the post advertised.
Evidence of using computer-based programmes such as AutoCAD, NBS, NES, word processing, spreadsheets, databases and a clear familiarity with PC's, keyboard etc.
Experience of co-ordinating and leading mechanical engineering, building services projects from inception to completion.
Experience of co-ordinating numerous response repairs works simultaneously.
Experience and an ability to provide professional advice, guidance, and/or training to colleagues and team members in the specialist of areas associated with mechanical engineering /building services.

Knowledge:

Advanced level of knowledge of current and emerging legislative and good practice in mechanical engineering maintenance, design and associated decarbonisation.
Detailed knowledge of general construction practices, mechanical, engineering maintenance and design, current design standards, cost control and procurement practices.

Skills & Abilities:

A high level of drawing, oral and written communications skills in order to effectively communicate with clients and contractors.
Ability to produce reports and written documents in clear and concise terms.
Ability to effectively plan, time manage and prioritise own workload, work using own initiative and meet agreed deadlines with minimum supervision.
Evidence of a professional approach to developing good working relationships with colleagues, contractors and clients.
Ability to work simultaneously on a wide range of tasks such as assessing building system/component/plant failures, design, performance management, procedural development etc.
Ability to deal with clients and situations in a sensitive and supportive manner.
Ability to travel to various locations using own vehicle.
Able to give clear and precise oral and written instructions.
Strong IT skills including Microsoft packages or equivalent (e.g. G Suite).
