Design Manager - Civil Engineering - Tier 1

We are working with a world-renowned civil engineering contractor, responsible for delivering some of the most iconic infrastructure schemes within the UK and internationally.

They are currently in the early stages of constructing a £200.M power supply tunnel project in an area of outstanding natural beauty. The project is part of the Visual Impact Provision project in the Snowdonia National Park near Porthmadog.

The project is in its infancy and has a seven-year programme. The project involves the construction of two shafts and a 3.4-kilometer tunnel to carry electricity under the Dwyryd Estuary.

They require an experienced Design Manager to join the delivery team to manage design consultants' activities and ensure that both input and output deliverables for the design are tracked and completed in line with the agreed programme and to act as the technical lead, reporting to the Engineering Manager.

 •  Manage the process, resolution, and communication of all design queries as part of the project.
 •  Review contract requirements and ensure compliance with requirements.
 •  Raise requests for further information internally and externally from the whole project team.
 •  Collaborate in the preparation of design programmes.
 •  Manage communication with the Client design representative throughout the contract period.
 •  Produce monthly reports on design progress and any other design-specific elements.
 •  Manage and update the design deliverable schedule.
 •  Review all design deliverables and ensure that they are completed to the expected standard. Challenge and resolve when not.
 •  Manage and chair design reviews with the project team.
 •  Manage and chair all design interface meetings with external parties.
 •  Review designs for compliance with contract requirements and tender intentions.
 •  Ensure compliance with design approval processes required by the contract.
 •  Routinely monitor report on the progress of the design and explain any necessary actions.
 •  Collaborate with the engagement of external suppliers/subcontractors.
 •  Ensure the document register is completed by designers correctly and issued to HTUK periodically.
 •  Manage the provision of drawings to the project team – document control.
 •  Establish technical query procedure.
 •  Review all design communications and collaboratively resolve queries.
 •  Agree on changes with the Project team by project authority protocol.
 •  Issue of instructions to the Designer by project authority protocol.
 •  Implement change order management.
 •  Approve the designer’s quality management system
 •  Support Assurance functions with design-specific requirements
