We are currently looking to recruit a Band 6 Clinical Educator to join the cardiothoracic ward on a fixed term contract. You will need significant experience in clinical practice in cardiothoracic surgery and a PG Course in Cardiorespiratory nursing.

The successful candidate will be highly motivated, passionate about staff development and education, have excellent communication skills and be currently working as a Band 6 or actively working towards a Band 6 in cardiothoracic.

You will be working closely with the Senior Clinical Educator, the ward manager, other PDN within the directorate and the Divisional Lead for Practice Development and Education.

The Clinical Educator (CE) will identify training needs, plan, implement and evaluate educational activities for students, new starters and existing members of non-medical staff (Band 1-6) within their clinical area and the directorate in the Division.

The post-holder will demonstrate specialist knowledge and skills commensurate with a clinical expert and effective leader; serve as a role-model; an agent of change and a facilitator of work-based learning.

Explicit within the role and the outcomes required of it, the CE will work collegiately to ensure standards are established, implemented and sustained, particularly those related to staff knowledge, skills development and patient safety.

Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trustis one of the largest NHS teaching trusts in the country. It provides a wide range of general and specialist clinical services. The Cardiothoracic ward is located in Oxford Heart Centre building, based at the John Radcliffe Hospital.
The clinical area comprises of 25 single rooms which caters the pre-operative and post-operative patients within the cardiothoracic speciality. We are a fast-paced, vibrant clinical area with friendly and excellent multi-disciplinary team that delivers a high standard quality of care to patients and actively demonstrates the Trust's values.
We will commit in providing ongoing education and developmental support to all staff through our friendly team structure and experienced educators.

The Clinical Educator (CE) will identify training needs, plan, implement and evaluate educational activities for students, new starters and existing members within their clinical area and the cardiac directorate.

The post-holder will demonstrate specialist knowledge and skills commensurate with a clinical expert and effective leader; serve as a role-model; an agent of change and a facilitator of work-based learning. It is essential that a clinical educator should have excellent inter-personal skills, a highly developed clinical skills in cardiothoracic nursing, inter-professional working and the ability to teach and motivate others.

Explicit within the role and the outcomes required of it, the CE will work collegiately to ensure standards are established, implemented and sustained, particularly those related to staff knowledge, skills development and patient safety. The post holder will also be required to work alongside learners, using a coaching/mentoring style techniques to identify learning needs, improve standards and escalate concerns where appropriate.
The CE should advocate for and contribute to a working environment that promotes evidence-based practice, continuous positive learning and development that promotes effective use of resources.
