Hospital Based IDVA Support Worker

Main Purpose

To provide immediate high quality trauma informed support and advice to victims of domestic abuse. To link the service users to longer term community support and to provide hospital staff with training and advice.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
 •  To provide practical and emotional support to victims of domestic abuse and other gender-based violence. This includes supporting and signposting Trust staff who are victims of abuse
 •  To establish the risks to the survivors using DASH-RIC and other tools and methods, to safety and support plan jointly with the service users, working directly with all key partner agencies including MARAC process
 •  To develop, and regularly review person-centred support plans to address individual support needs relating to domestic abuse , legal advice, housing needs, tenancy support, support of children, access to learning or employment dependent on the individual’s aspirations and needs
 •  To create and provide a detailed discharge plan for those people experiencing DA and ensure that this is communicated to the appropriate services and individuals at discharge to reduce the risk of re admission
 •  To advocate for and on behalf of the service users with external agencies where appropriate in order to meet the service users needs
 •  To ensure that all safeguarding requirements are met in line with organisational, local and legal procedures. This includes working closely with Safeguarding Adult and Children Team, including named midwife
 •  Attend internal safeguarding adult and children committees meetings and provide data activity reports as required
 •  To identify, develop and deliver training and on-going support to staff at the Trust by introducing frequent Domestic Abuse professional development sessions through range of methods including briefing sessions, workshops, drop-in sessions. This with an aim for the NHS staff to be better able to understand DA and respond appropriately to the needs of the survivors.
 •  To create and maintain strong links with local statutory and voluntary sector agencies as part of the longer terms support pathways available to the service users.
 •  To ensure all work is recorded to a high standard within our client’s casework management system
 •  To be an ambassador for our clients, working in partnership with other agencies to ensure an effective, coordinated community response to survivors of domestic violence and their children
 •  To take part in supervision and appraisal and take up opportunities to self-develop within the organisation and externally.

Together with the Service Manager adopt a collaborative approach to create a truly co-produced service, ensuring that the service users are fully involved in the review, planning and delivery of the service.
 •  Ensure that individuals have relevant information about service user activities.
 •  Provide monitoring information, both internally and externally, as required.
 •  Provide written reports and verbal representation to internal and external stakeholders when required.
 •  To ensure that the service is contract compliant with the details in the service specification.
 •  To ensure that all records are kept up to date and are stored in a secure and confidential manner.
 •  To make best use of property, equipment and Information Technology
 •  At all times be a role model and display behaviours that reflect our clients Values

PERSONAL SPECIFICATION
 •  Excellent knowledge of the impact of domestic abuse and other gender based violence on survivors and their children
 •  Experience of providing emotional and practical support to survivors of domestic abuse and other gender based violence
 •  Ability to build positive relationships with the service users and to work in a non-judgmental way and non-directive way to empower the service users to achieve their goals and aspirations
 •  Experience of risk assessing, safety and support planning for the survivors of domestic and other gender based violence
 •  Awareness of risks associated with domestic violence in a working environment
 •  Working knowledge of the relevant housing law and welfare benefits that apply to survivors and their children using the service
