An opportunity has arisen within the Pathology Department at Lincoln County Hospital for a full-time Medical Laboratory Assistant post based in the Blood Sciences Pathology Department.

This is an important role, supporting the Pathology Department, and is suitable for individuals who like a variety of duties. Experience of computer input work is essential and applicants should be able to demonstrate current skills.

The candidate should be literate and numerate, GCSE Grade C or above in mathematics and English would be an advantage as would previous laboratory or health care experience and familiarity with medical terminology.

Hours:The post-holder will be expected to work a late shift of 3.75 hours per day over 4 days a week. More details upon request.

The successful candidate will be expected to work as part of the multidisciplinary Blood Sciences laboratory after appropriate training and completion of the relevant in-house competencies.

As a Medical Laboratory Assistant your main role is to assist Biomedical Scientists with their lab work. You will receipt and process a variety of biological samples. You will also be trained to work in phlebotomy, taking blood from patients.

In order to achieve this you will need:
 •  attention to detail
 •  good level of manual dexterity
 •  computer skills, for example, for recording patient information
 •  teamwork skills
 •  excellent communication skills
