Health Care Assistant - Rushmere Medical Day Unit

An exciting opportunity has become available to join the team on the Rushmere Medical Day Unit. The successful applicant will work within the remit of the HCA role with the addition of extra responsibility. This will include aspects of admin and housekeeping covering for the relevant post holders when they are on annual leave.

The Rushmere Medical day unit is a nurse led, elective care setting which treats patients from all specialties, currently treating up to 30 patients per day. Such procedures undertaken on the unit consist of a variety of infusions, endocrine tests, biopsies, chest drains, paracentesis, lumbar punctures, transoesophageal echocardiograms and venesections.

We are offering the opportunity to work with a highly dedicated, hardworking team of nurses, health care assistants and an admission coordinator. You must be able to work as part of a team as well as work independently. The unit is open Monday to Friday 08:00-20:00.
Shift patterns are either 08:00-14:00 or 14:00-20:00 over 4 shifts per week.

Admin duties will involve, organising, obtaining and tracking prescriptions. Accepting and acting on patient referrals, sending appointment letters. Answering telephone enquiries and booking appointments.

Housekeeping duties will include ordering supplies, refilling stock, maintaining and keeping clean the unit equipment.

HCA duties to include assisting registered nurses/doctor. This could involve anything from general observations of the patient to chaperoning and assisting minor procedures. You will be expected to undertake the admission and discharge process, completing the relevant admission paperwork when required.
The successful candidate will be expected to undertake cannulation and venepuncture training if not already competent.
