Job Description
About you and this role:
As an Instrument Engineer/Senior Hardware Discipline Engineer you will be responsible for providing specialist technical support to the site maintenance and operations functions and for ensuring the site complies with all regulatory requirements relating to the safe installation, operation and maintenance of instrumentation systems.
Your role is based at Dow Silicones Barry site in South Wales and is one of the largest and most complex silicones sites in the world. Barry is situated less than 10 miles from Cardiff city center, which is home to Europe's largest waterfront development and combines the practical advantages of a small, friendly city with the cultural and recreational amenities of a successful modern capital.
Responsibilities:
Provide technical support and advice on equipment failures, root cause investigation, reliability improvements, facility and equipment strategies.
Provide instrument engineering support to projects including front end design inputs, reliability and operability advice, and commissioning support.
Provide instrumentation expertise to Process Hazard Review & Process Hazard Analysis, alarm reviews and safety audits.
Develop, maintain and apply standards and procedures for the design and maintenance of instrumentation systems.
Maintain and update instrument documentation including datasheets, loopsheets and schematics
Have working knowledge of Hazardous Area Classification, Electrostatics and the ATEX directives
Share knowledge internally/externally via technical resource network forums
Deliver technical presentations and training material
Ensure instrumentation represented on PIDs is correct
Carry out safety and reliability root cause investigations
Support major maintenance activities e.g. plant shutdowns
Troubleshooting and fault finding instrument & PLC systems
You should have excellent influencing and motivational skills and have a strong commitment to safety.
Qualifications:
Minimum of Bachelor’s degree in Instrument/Control Engineering, Electrical Engineering or related field. Masters preferred, and working towards Chartered Status.
Minimum 5 years instrument engineering experience in an operational environment is preferred, (at a COMAH facility in the chemical or petrochemical sector), but not required.
Understand relevant legislative requirements, (Electricity at Work Regulations, DSEAR, ATEX, BS7671 etc)
