The Opportunity

Martin-Baker is looking for skilled individuals to join our Systems Engineering team to work on a variety of different Crew Escapes systems, and their enabling subsystems, for a range of military aircraft around the world. We seek a number of systems engineers, from Graduate up to Senior Engineer level, to work across the entire system lifecycle.

These are an exciting set of opportunities to work from the initial customer engagement stages of a project all the way through to the final delivery and ongoing support of the product.

As a member of our team, you will have the ability to approach and solve problems with a Systems mindset; being able to capture and analyse requirements, perform trade studies and conduct simulations, create and document the system design, decompose requirements to various subsystem levels, plan and track verification activities and engage with multiple stakeholders.
In summary you will play a significant role in the technical direction and strategy of our ongoing and future project and products.

Whats in it for you
 •  Ability to influence a range of Crew Escape system programmes whilst working with a variety of aircraft platforms and customers around the world
 •  You will have the opportunity to grow and develop a broad skill base in a supportive, but technically challenging environment
 •  The opportunity to work on a variety of projects at different points in their lifecycle.
 •  Have a meaningful impact on the safety of aircrew whilst pushing the envelope of escape system technology
 •  The freedom and support to improve our processes and tools

What you will do
 •  Employ a model-based systems engineering approach to manage requirements, develop architectures and coordinate/trace verification activities
 •  Undertake top-down system design, explore architectural options and complete trade-off studies using a variety of simulation/modelling tools
 •  Develop system requirements and translate them into subsystem requirements and interface definitions
 •  Take a leading role in technical interchange meetings with internal and external customers, suppliers and stakeholders
 •  Collaborate with implementation and verification teams to ensure delivery of a fully compliant system
 •  Technical reporting of key findings and recommendations for delivery to customers and other stakeholders

More senior roles will:

 •  Provide technical guidance and Systems Engineering governance to a growing team and the wider business
 •  Lead and mentor teams of engineers
 •  Provide subject matter expertise to the team and assigned projects

What we’re looking for
 •  Degree qualified in Physics, Engineering or Maths
 •  Analytical Systems thinkers able to develop and communicate difficult/new concepts.
 •  Ability to cope with a high degree of design complexity and significant levels of uncertainty
 •  Self-motivated with an aptitude for problem solving (strong numerical and analytical ability) and driving difficult issues to conclusion.
 •  Excellent verbal and written communication / collaboration skills.

More senior roles will need:

 •  Experience of developing complex systems, ideally in defence.
 •  Knowledge of Systems Engineering processes such as requirements elicitation, traceability, verification coverage, etc
 •  Experience of engineering gate reviews and the associated assessment of design compliance
 •  Proficiency in working across the systems engineering lifecycle
 •  Experience of working with a variety of internal and external stakeholders of varying seniorities.

It would be nice if you had:

 •  Expertise with MBSE processes, tools (e.g. Enterprise Architect,) and languages (e.g. SysML).
 •  Experience of supporting design / delivery teams to develop complex, technical solutions in accordance with plans and processes.
 •  Experience of aerospace standards and regulations
