Water Networks Manager

Our Client are a leading Utilities business with a dedicated team delivering safe, reliable and economic multi-utility supplies and services (electricity, clean water, waste water collection and treatment, natural gas transmission and telecoms).
They are now seeking an experienced Water Networks Manager to join their team as they progress a major capital modernisation programme.

Reporting to the Head of Water, the Water Networks Manager will oversee the operation and maintenance of the water distribution network and manage the operational staff within the Water Network and Smart Networks and Leakage Teams. Wider duties will include:

 •  Lead the team of staff who manage, monitor, optimise and operate the organisation's below ground water assets in order to meet statutory duties and responsibilities
 •  Support the Head of Water in promoting the organisation's Vision, Values and Objectives
 •  Ensure the adequacy of, and look to improve, Risk Assessments and Safe Working Procedures that are in place and promote a culture of continuous improvement
 •  Be a key participant in the maintenance of the ISO 9001.2015 certification
 •  Be prepared to be a significant contributor to a restructure of the Water network function and key contributor in the Supply Resilience sub group
 •  Provide technical expertise to assist in delivering the capital programme including developing and maintaining a capital plan for the below ground assets
 •  Actively manage, reduce and mitigate the risk and the consequence of service failure
 •  Monitor and assess the performance of the water network and identify operational maintenance and investment requirements
 •  Develop and implement strategies and plans which improve the resilience and reliability of assets
 •  Help the projects team to ensure that work carried out by consultants, contractors and developers on the network are carried out safely, effectively and to the appropriate standards
 •  Work with the Projects team to develop standards for new mains
 •  Respond to customer queries and complaints when required to do so
 •  Carry out safety related toolbox talks/team briefings to all staff on a quarterly basis
 •  Stand in for the Head of Water when required to do so
 •  Promote best practise and prioritise workloads to ensure best use of resources
 •  Participate in the 24 hour emergency response unit (includes standby rota), if required

The ideal candidate for the role of Water Networks Manager will have:

 •  Extensive experience, knowledge and understanding of the operation and maintenance of water below ground assets
 •  Technical knowledge of pumped systems, water hydraulics and work practices
 •  Have a working knowledge of leakage management
 •  Technical and practical knowledge of the Water Act
 •  Management experience of operational front line staff
 •  Experience of budgetary management
 •  Knowledge and awareness of the requirement for compliance with a) Corporate Governance, b) Industry Regulations, c) The Health and Safety at Work Act
 •  Be a team player and proven team leader
 •  Be self-motivated and motivational to others
 •  Have a successful track record of supporting / leading organisational change
 •  Excellent communication skills
 •  Able to establish effective relationships and command respect
 •  Committed to continuous improvement
