Working within our industrial design team at our Eurocentral site in Motherwell, you will interpret customer requirements into designs that will support our lean manufacturing processes.

What will you be doing?

As Senior Design Engineer, you will play an integral role in the success of the McPhee site.

You will work on our various industrial products, including our McPhee Mixers brand, producing cost effective designs that meet our customer's requirements. You will ensure the smooth running of the design process including producing engineering packs for our production teams.

You will be responsible for drawing up parts & assemblies to suit customer requirements. The role will evolve with experience by interpreting customer requirements into appropriate and cost-effective designs that can be fabricated by the workshop team, and which support lean manufacturing processes.

What is the role?

The main duties and responsibilities of a Senior Design Engineer are:

 •  To work with the Technical Director and wider technical and commercial teams to understand the customer requirements so that accurate designs and drawings can be agreed
 •  To measure all around vehicles to design bespoke equipment
 •  Interpret customer requirements to prepare technically correct and accurate drawing.
 •  Liaise with sales departments and purchasing team to ensure that all appropriate materials will be available to complete the current customer specification.
 •  Relevant and accurate detailed drawings are produced that support the capabilities of the machinery within the Company. All designs comply with current vehicle type approval requirements. Lean manufacturing processes are used wherever possible
 •  Maintain awareness of technical developments.
 •  To produce relevant and detailed technical drawings and 3D models for each project that use the most efficient and cost-effective methods
 •  Responsible for the timely completion of all related administration
 •  ​Coordinate activities to transfer new products into production.
 •  Update production personnel of any key requirements and support once in production if issues occur, feeding back improvement ideas and solutions

You will need to have the following experience:

 •  Bachelor’s degree in engineering or equivalent vocational qualification
 •  2 years + in a capex/bespoke engineering sector role
 •  A strong understanding of engineering processes, materials, and manufacturing techniques.
 •  CAD Experience – Solidworks, Inventor
 •  Experience in DFMEA
 •  A strong attention to Detail
 •  Excellent Communication skills
