The Opportunity
A fantastic opportunity has arisen to have the chance of joining a well-established UK engineering business located in Clyde as an experienced Civil/Structural Engineer. As the Civil/Structural Engineer you will be working as part of a multi-disciplinary engineering team where the primary purpose of the role is to directly support a major defence project.
Are you a proven Civil Structural Engineer where you have extensive experience of supporting steelwork structure related projects within nuclear, defence or another highly regulated industry?
Do you have knowledge design substantiation or justification and design modification?
Would you be interested in joining a well-established engineering consultancy on long-term key project?

Your duties and responsibilities will be: Authoring, development, assessment, maintenance and management of the Infrastructure Design Substantiation documents.
Authoring, development, assessment, maintenance and management of design changes/concessions
Presentation of the clients substantiations, to ‘Due Process’ nuclear safety committees
Production and development of Examination, Inspection, Maintenance & Testing (EIMT) Schedule, operating procedures and results to satisfy design requirements and safety case through life
Producing/assessing Periodic Review of Safety reports
Providing advice and direction to internal and external stakeholders
Production of Independent Technical Review (ITA)/Independent Peer Review (IPR)
Use a combination of general and specialist engineering knowledge and understanding to apply existing and emerging technology
Apply appropriate theoretical and practical methods to design, develop, manufacture, construct, commission, operate, maintain, decommission and re-cycle engineering processes, systems, services and products in a nuclear/high risk environment
Producing robust technical justification to allow for relevant civil/structural design modifications to be authorised within a high hazard industry
You will have the following qualifications & experience:
Proven experience in the design assessment of steelwork structures to withstand dynamic loads including; earthquake motions, blast, wind, rain and snow loading
Experience working on steelwork marine structures and jetties would be ideal
Experience of producing robust technical justification to allow for relevant structural design modifications to be authorised within a high hazard industry
Apply appropriate theoretical and practical methods to design, develop, manufacture, construct, commission, operate, maintain, decommission and re-cycle engineering processes, systems, services and products in a nuclear/high risk environment
Use a combination of general and specialist engineering knowledge and understanding to apply existing and emerging technology
Structural Engineering degree
Incorporated engineer (or equivalent experience)
All candidates must be willing and able to attain the required level of security clearance needed for the assignment.
It’s great if you also have the following: Experience working in a nuclear environment
Familiarity with safety case development techniques e.g. HAZID/HAZOP studies.
Chartered engineer (or equivalent experience)
