Join us as a Financial Crime External Engagement Lead
 •  This is a high-profile role, where you’ll lead a team who ensure our business strategy is compliant with financial crime policy, external laws and regulations, as well as influence the future development of those laws and policies
 •  Working closely with the Head of Threat Mitigation and Strategy, you’ll drive the development and delivery of public, private and industry information sharing, to meet the UK economic crime plan objectives of reducing money laundering and fraud through the financial system
 •  You’ll support us directly in preventing money laundering, breaches of sanctions, terrorism financing, bribery and corruption within our franchises
 •  Hone your leadership skills and gain recognition for your specialist expertise

What you’ll do

As a Financial Crime External Engagement Lead, you’ll be building and managing relationships with senior stakeholders across Natwest, as well as in peer banks, UK finance government, regulators and law enforcement. Alongside which, you’ll lead, support and mentor your colleagues and oversee an effective approach towards development and training, succession planning and talent management.

You’ll design business and commercial financial crime policy and mandatory procedures, ensuring they are reflective of relevant laws and regulations, while establishing and maintaining operating procedures and controls to meet the bank’s and local policy requirements.

Additionally, you’ll:

 •  Lead our Financial Crime Threat Intelligence and Special Enhanced Due Diligence teams
 •  Oversee the development and implementation of risk and control mechanisms for the business, independently managing and challenging the effective management of risks and controls within agreed risk appetites
 •  Make sure that the business addresses financial crime risk concerns within the management of their customer, geographic and product portfolio life-cycle
 •  Ensure that a stable and effective governance structure is in place for the Financial Crime function with the appropriate forums, MI and escalation routes
 •  Oversee the adherence to the bank’s global financial crime standards
 •  Direct and advise the team to maintain the effective oversight of financial crime risk frameworks, and systems and controls

The skills you’ll need

We’re looking for someone with a deep understanding of the financial service industry, along with a robust and broad understanding of risk management principles and regulatory framework. You’ll need technical expertise of relevant political and legislative developments across the financial industry, with the ability to guide and influence business representatives on related matters.

It’s also crucial that you have the leadership skills to empower teams to actively challenge how we do things.

You’ll also need:

 •  Demonstrable capability to influence internal and external stakeholders at peer or senior level, including both public sector and peer banks
 •  Experience in the effective leadership of multi-disciplinary teams, delivering in a complex partnership working environment
 •  Practical experience of Anti-Money Laundering and Fraud intelligence assessment or investigation gained in the banking industry, law enforcement or government
 •  Experience of delivering at pace in a project based environment
 •  Knowledge of the regulatory environment, divisional frameworks and methodologies
 •  The ability to build trust and demonstrate value, applying expertise to credibly influence customers, working in partnership with stakeholders
