A fantastic opportunity has recently arisen within the Macmillan unit, as we are advertising for a Health Care Assistant to join our busy Macmillan unit for Cancer patients and their carers/family. This is a full time , permanent role. The ideal candidate will need to be able to work in a calm, logical, organised and methodical way whilst being able to multi-task in a busy environment.
The role to work under the direction and supervision of the registered nurse (RN) at all times, working to support and assist the delivery of, high quality, safe, dignified and compassionate healthcare, to all patients in Macmillan Unit. This role also involves working closely with colleagues within the center, Cancer services including Cancer Nurse Specialists and Cancer Support Workers .

To play a central role within the Macmillan Unit and to work in close liaison with Patients, colleagues, staff in other departments and the general public. Also toensure that all Outpatients/Treatment Units areas are ready to receive patients and other members of the clinical team.

To Consistently ensure that the privacy, dignity and psychological needs of both the patients and their families are maintained at all times. Ensure that care given is patient centered

 •  To accurately and promptly carry out the instructions of the Registered Nurse who is professionally accountable for the delivery of care.
 •  To deliver care and carry out duties as specified within the Trust’s approved core task list for Healthcare Assistant.
 •  To report to Registered Nurse any patient who gives cause for concern or any observed changes in the patient’s condition.
 •  To respond appropriately to clinical emergencies to ensure the patient receives appropriate
 •  To participate in the admission process under the supervision of the Registered Nurse
 •  Provide and deliver a high standard of individualized personal nursing
 •  To report all care that has been given to patients within the team to a Registered
 •  To accurately document all care delivered to patients, countersigned by a Registered Nurse maintaining confidentiality at all times.
 •  To assist in the preparation of patients and equipment for treatment, investigations or procedures as directed by the Consultants/ Registered Nurse/specialist nurses. Eg: Venesection’s & Lumbar Punctures
 •  To keep the clinical area clean and tidy maintaining a safe
 •  To adhere to Trust infection control procedures demonstrating an understanding of cross
 •  To chaperone for patients or escort patients in Macmillan Outpatients clinic/clinical departments under the direction of the Registered Nurse/Specialist Nurse.
 •  To support relatives under the guidance of a Registered to assist with the discharge process for patients as directed by Registered Nurse
