Mechanical Technician

Absolute Industrial Recruitment are currently recruiting for a Mechanical Technician for our client based in Stafford on a permanent position.
Key Tasks and Responsibilities:
• To service, repair and prepare vehicles to industry and manufacturers standards
• To carry out pinpoint diagnostic work and to use OEM diagnostic tooling
• To carry out service and repair on hydraulic and mechanical braking systems fitted to vehicles.
• To carry out service and repair on internal combustion engines and associated components
• To carry out service and repair on automatic, manual gearbox/transmissions and associated drivetrain components
• To carry out service and repair on air conditioning systems (F Gas certification required)
• To fabricate and modify chassis components as required.
• To carry out service and repair to auto-electrical systems
• To prepare vehicles to ministry standards
• To perform MOT Testing (certification dependent)
• To carry out VHC inspections on incoming vehicles
• To install towbar systems including the connection of the tow socket to the OEM wiring system
• To carry out and document periodic inspection on company vehicles
• To conduct road tests for diagnostic and QC purposes (driving licence category dependent)
• To service and install hydraulic levelling systems to vehicles chassis platforms
• To service and install pneumatic air suspension systems to vehicles chassis platforms
• To service and repair mobile or fixed generator systems including fuel cell chargers
• To follow detailed instructions from factory bulletins/documents when instructed
• To liaise with other departments and customers and offer assistance as and when required.
• To carry out written and detailed reports of all works carried out
• To always work within the law
Personal Attributes:
To have good communication skills, open and willing to learn, be able to work well under pressure and with a team, to have impeccable timekeeping.
Qualifications:
Level 3 Automotive maintenance and repair essential all other qualifications are preferable.
• Qualified to Guild’s City level 3 automotive maintenance and repair (4101) or above (or equivalent)
• MOT testing certificate with a clean driving license
• F-Gas Certification
• AL-KO certification
• UK Driving license including towing capability.
• Chassis dealer training (Fiat, Mercedes, Iveco preferred) IMI level 2 diploma in auto
and mobile electrical principles or above
• Key stage 1 or above English
• Key stage 1 or above Mathematics
• Key stage 1 or above ITC
• Welding qualification to BS-EN 287-1:2004 or above
• Abrasive wheels accreditation
• Working at height accreditation
Skills:
• Good communication skills.
• Excellent customer service skills
• Ability to work independently and unsupervised.
• To be able to operate ITC equipment (portable mobile devices, diagnostic equipment)
• To understand basic hand signals given by banks person while moving vehicles around the site
• Complex problem solving
• To understand advanced chassis function and operation vehicles.
• Competency with chassis franchised diagnostic tools (Fiat)
• The ability to work to tight deadlines, under pressure.
Health & Safety
• To always work with the law under the Health and Safety at Work Act (1974)
• To be responsible for your own and other safety within the workplace
• To have the ability to work at heigh safely using training provided
• To act on any unsafe practise or situation when noticed or informed
• To follow any and all policies in place
• To follow the road traffic act at all times on and off site
• To operate machinery or plant equipment only if trained and authorised to do so
• The use of banks persons when moving vehicles is mandatory at all times when on site
• The use of LEV or mobile exhaust filters is mandatory when interval combustion engines are in use inside the premises.
• To carry out housekeeping to maintain a safe working environment during and at the end of each working day.
Working Hours
4 on 4 off – 6am – 6pm
Salary
£11.44 - £16.00 per hour dependent on experience
Plus, additional potential of up to £1000 per month bonus.
