Medical Laboratory Assistant

Abergavenny | Permanent | £24,962/year | www.cv-library.co.uk |
Are you seeking a fresh career path that offers the chance to acquire new skills and tackle new challenges within a dynamic and rapidly changing environment?

We have a new and exciting job opening for a Medical Laboratory Assistant (MLA), available on a full-time (40hr) and permanent basis in our Sample Reception Team. This position will involve receiving blood samples and close coordination with our Biomedical Scientists and Pathology staff to conduct a variety of tests requested by our clients.

Who are we?

SYNLAB Laboratory Services is part of SYNLAB UK & Ireland, who provide laboratory diagnostic and training services to a diverse range of sectors including healthcare and wellness, sport, travel, corporates and insurers, logistics and family law.

Our site in Abergavenny has 2 in-house laboratories, offering a wide range of pathology tests including occupational health and wellness tests, as well as workplace drug and alcohol testing. In addition to our laboratories providing UKAS accredited ISO/IEC 17025 and ISO 15189 testing, we are one of only a few providers offering an end-to-end in-house collection and laboratory service.

What the role involves:

 •  Receipting, checking and sorting of specimens, labelling and preparation for analysis.
 •  Inputting patient and test data into the laboratory computer system.
 •  Maintaining accurate record keeping and excellent working practices in the laboratory.
 •  Use of LIMS, Quality Management System and other application software according to authorised protocols.

Why is this job right for you?
 •  The role is a good first step into a laboratory setting with a first-class supportive team.
 •  If you have experience of working in a Biomedical Laboratory, this could be an advantage but not entirely necessary.
 •  The part-time role can be flexible with start and finish times.
 •  An opportunity to develop your career in a well-established organisation, where we encourage continuous learning and skill enhancement.

What we’re looking for:

 •  A minimum requirement of 3 GCSE’s or equivalent, to include English and Maths and at least one science subject.
 •  A detail-oriented individual who takes pride in their work and works well with computers and data entry.
 •  We would like full-time applicants to work collaboratively with one week in three to cover Saturday hours (2-4hr). These hours can be taken back flexibly in the week which is something our staff benefit from.
 •  Must be an excellent team player with tenacious spirit and have a responsible and reliable sense.
 •  Ability to manage time to best advantage and with good communication skills.
 •  Good computer skills with accurate typing/data input.
