Suffolk Independent Living | Beccles | findajob.dwp.gov.uk |
About me
I am a 42-year-old lady who lives in Beccles. Following an illness that left me disabled about 20 years ago, I am unable to sit without support and I can’t stand or walk at all. I also have limited use of my right arm and hand. Additionally, I have mental health problems, but all of these things do not stop me enjoying my life and having the continued hope of some improvement.
Due to my disability, I use a catheter and wear pads. I get about independently using my electric wheelchair; however, I do need to be hoisted for all transfers (which you will be trained to do).
I love animals, my pets and going out on the train. My carers and I are really into gardening at the moment. I have various pets which add a lot of interest and companionship to my life. I am keen that all my carers are happy to work around these.
I have a 13-year-old Toy poodle cross, a four year old Labrador, 2 geckos, 2 budgies and Dave the Guinea pig too. Although I am very chatty and friendly, I don’t like to be questioned too much about my situation – I would like the successful candidate to respect my privacy and allow personal information to be passed on when I am comfortable to do so.
About the role
Essential
• Happy to work in a dog-friendly home.
• Respectful of my privacy.
• Friendly and chatty.
• Flexible with times and hours.

• Happy to work within an existing team of carers.
Desirable
• An interest in animals
• Driving license with access to own car to run errands (not with me).
• Kind and caring
• Experience/Interest in hairstyling.
• Experience with care work.
• Experience using a hoist
I require additional support at less regular times throughout the week, for example if my dogs need to be walked or I have appointments or other engagements that you need to accompany me to.
Experience in care work is not a requirement; however you need to be keen and willing to learn. The kind of person you are is much more important than the experience you have.
