Estimator

Working from home, our client is looking for an experienced estimator from the piling sector. Our client is also willing to consider a Contracts/Project Manager from the piling sector who wishes to move into estimating.

Our client is one of the UK’s largest piling and ground engineering contractors, renowned for providing technically advanced and cost-effective foundations and structures solutions. Their reputation is built on engineering excellence and a commitment to continual innovation, backed by a central technical design, bidding and engineering resource, they can deliver the full range of foundations, piling, geotechnical and retaining structures techniques.
In turn, they are able to provide their clients with a turnkey foundation solution, which is supported by their state-of-the-art processes and technologies.

Due to continued expansion and commitment to sustained growth and a consistent pipeline of contract tenders, our client now wishes to appoint an experienced professional Estimator who will be responsible for the pricing and tendering of a wide range of technically demanding and complex projects.

This position works within the pre-contracts team whose primary objective is to help secure a sustained forward order workload by preparing and proposing innovative, competitive and cost-effective estimates and tenders for the delivery of a variety of foundations disciplines (with a focus upon sheet and steel piling) that meets their client’s requirements and the company’s sales, growth and commercial strategy.

You will need to possess an understanding of the full pre-construction estimating process and be expected to work from a bill of quantities or a set of drawings from the client to provide competitive quotes and tenders. You will be expected to possess good commercial acumen, with a very client focused outlook to engage with stakeholders of all levels to determine their needs and articulate those requirements in order to provide a winning solution-based proposal.

The Role
 •  Interpret engineering plans, blueprints, and specification drawings to determine the scope of works
 •  Check tender requirements against the company’s governance procedure to determine the most appropriate solution
 •  Interpret information supplied by the client or suitable generic ground engineering values
 •  In conjunction with the Contracts Manager, conduct site inspections for project tender requirements, analysis of conditions, assessment of risk and identification of activities that may or may not be shown in the scope of work documents
 •  Review contract conditions and incorporate the company’s requirements within tender submission documents
 •  Liaise with clients on an ongoing basis to determine progress of tenders and help secure contracts
 •  Comply with company policies and procedures relating to HSE legislation as required

The Person
 •  Experience of working within the ground or geotechnical engineering, and piling or foundations sectors, with experience of sheet or steel piling disciplines
 •  Possess a market led approach to business, with a clear understanding of the process required to determine and prioritise the needs and goals of clients
 •  A confident and articulate communicator with experience of liaising with clients to build and maintain solid and lasting relationships
 •  Proven delivery of piling project tenders (on time and to budget), whilst ensuring the highest standards of quality is maintained
 •  Prepared to develop your own knowledge and professional status
 •  Driven to help work winning activities, and in doing so, ensuring that an appropriate pipeline of contracts is maintained
 •  Excellent numerical acumen, with the ability to manipulate data to determine trends, risks and opportunities
 •  Good IT skills with knowledge of key Microsoft applications
 •  Good problem-solving skills and the ability to pay close attention to detail
 •  Excellent communication and presentation skills
 •  An organised approach to your work and the ability to meet challenging deadlines
 •  An awareness of relevant industry regulations
 •  Drive, enthusiasm, and the ability to work on your own initiative to overcome obstacles
 •  Flexible work ethic and a team player
 •  A full UK driving licence is essential

Working from home, the successful candidate will be offered an attractive basic salary, plus bonus and an extensive benefits package, along with career progression and security of work given the company has a clear and defined commitment to continued profitable growth
