Overview:

A vacancy has arisen for a Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE) Officer to join our large retail site in Cross Hands. You will provide operational support to the site management team, using your knowledge and skills to promote a positive Health and Safety culture, to ensure compliance with Health and Safety legislation and adherence to site policies and practices.
The role will report directly into the site Health, Safety & Environmental Manager.

Responsibilities:

 •  Assisting with Health & Safety audits and inspections on site.
 •  Monitoring and reviewing protective and preventative measures on site, whilst supporting with the planning and implementation of such measures.
 •  Conducting Risk Assessment and Safe Working Practices (SWPs) alongside the HSE Manager and consider how risks can be reduced.
 •  Supporting operations to review and roll out SWPs.
 •  Proactively work to reduce accidents and near misses, by assisting activities that will include writing and rolling out team briefs and Task Observation Behavioural Evaluation Reports.
 •  Liasing with departmental Managers to review H&S reports and raise awareness of any risks.
 •  Assisting with H&S investigations and the collation of information.
 •  Conducting low level H&S investigations.
 •  Assisting with the organization of site training i.e. accident investigation, manual handing.
 •  Assisting in the development of the H&S Management System, as well assisting departments with the use of continuous improvement tools.
 •  Completion of COSHH assessments.
 •  Assisting with environmental management activities, such as waste streams, energy KPIs and preparation for audits.
 •  Maintain and improve the Environmental Management System on site to ISO 14001 standard.
 •  Maintain and improve the Energy Management System on site to ISO 50001 standard.
 •  Undertake audits on site to ensure our IPPC permit is being adhered to.

Qualifications:

 •  NEBOSH National Certificate in Health and Safety or equivalent is essential.
 •  Strong working knowledge of email, Word, PowerPoint and Excel.
 •  Report writing skills.
 •  Problem solving leadership and effective communication skills.
 •  Good communication skills.
 •  A reliable team player with a strong proactive nature
 •  Ability to use initiative and work with minimal supervision, in a fast-paced working environment.
 •  Knowledge of continuous improvement processes.
 •  An Environmental / Quality qualification and / or professional Membership of IOSH/ IEMA/ CQI would be desirable.
