We are pleased to be recruiting for a Stores Person to join Dorset Police Force based at Weymouth Police Station.

This is a full-time role working Monday to Friday 8am - 5pm. The hourly pay rate is £12.92 per hour.

This is a Temporary ongoing position.

A full UK driving licence is required for this role.

PLEASE NOTE, DUE TO POLICE CRITERIA YOU MUST HAVE RESIDED IN THE UK FOR AT LEAST THE LAST 3 YEARS CONTINUOUSLY.

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE:

To ensure the appropriate fleet related technical supplies and consumables are resourced in a timely and cost effective manner to minimise asset down time, whilst adhering to financial policy, procedures and audit requirements.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

Provide 'just enough just in time' logistic support to service the demands of vehicle safety and maintenance. Supply vehicle parts and consumables to vehicle technicians as required. Robust logistical support is provided to ensure an effective continuing service, balancing principles of practical, efficient stock controls with the needs of others in accessing consumables as and when needed.

Process requisitions and purchase orders for vehicle parts and equipment from approved suppliers to workshops, including receiving, receipting, picking, packing and distributing items. All administrative requirements associated with the order/supply/record keeping processes are rigorous and the service is effective.

Operate a fork lift truck and other vehicles, with clear awareness of all health and safety issues arising in a busy hazardous environment. Fork lift capability is provided - cognisant of all relevant 'controls' to observe health and safety and mitigate regards risk; compliance with local processes (e.g. risk assessment/method of working) and wider legislation.

Ensure that all goods received meet quality standards and quantity expectancies in line with the purchase order, as well as resolving any outstanding issues with suppliers. Robust quality controls in place; efficient service is sustained to ensure the 'right goods/right time' principles are adopted, with a clear focus upon timely 'delivery' of such a service, resolving all matters from a 'start to finish' with suppliers.

Assist in regular inventory audits and provides support in resolving any discrepancies. Inventory records are transparent, accessible and total collaboration with others upon any review is sustained.

Assist with the monitoring and highlight of any positive or negative trends or stakeholder feedback. Customer service is assessed continuously with reactionary measures observed by management from a basis of insightful updates; supervisors are kept appraised of comments (positive/negative) and any associated developing trends.

This list of duties is not restrictive or exhaustive and the post-holder may be required to carry out duties from time to time that are either commensurate with/or lower than the grade of the post. In some posts this might include the ad-hoc provision of guidance and informal training of new colleagues.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

Demonstrable skills and knowledge obtained through significant practical experience in vehicle maintenance and storekeeping underpinned by structured off-the-job training.

Demonstrable knowledge of a wide range of makes and types of vehicles, as well as of a wide range of previous, current and future vehicle components.

Sound decision making skills - ability to make robust decisions based on technical knowledge (e.g. of vehicles, including stock holding, sources of supply and cost effective replacements).

Good organiser - able to plan work and respond to the needs of the customers via email, fax, telephone and at the counter.

Ability to review seasonally required items and ensure parts are available when needed across the two Forces without holding excessive stocks and incurring unnecessary costs.

Ability to check inventory levels, monitor trends in demand and deal with internal requisitions; able to evaluate and access best sources of supply for a wide range of parts and interpret information provided by vehicle technicians seeking vehicle parts.

Ability to deal confidentially and efficiently with external suppliers and internal customers daily; project a positive image of the Force in any contact with suppliers.

Demonstrable awareness of cost and resource implications of own work; assess the cost implications of own decisions on the selection of parts and sources.

Demonstrate a willingness to co-operate with colleagues and to share knowledge and experience with others.

Sound Problem Solving skills - able to resolve problems associated with the supply chain, such as a lack of available parts, compatibility, reliability of supply and sources of alternative parts.
