We are currently searching for an experienced Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join the Building Services department of an established Suffolk based design consultancy. The ideal candidate would have a good appreciation and understanding of the other building services disciplines and capable of representing the company with other professional design team members throughout the projects from conception to practical completion.

It would be desirable to have obtained a number of years experience within the Building Services industry and we would be interested in either an established senior candidates or someone seeking their first opportunity of working at senior engineer level.

We would expect you to have attained a recognised engineering or management qualification with membership of CIBSE or IMechE Institutions as well as working towards chartered engineering status with the engineering council.

Duties Include:

 •  Carrying out detailed Mechanical Building Services Design Engineering on new build and refurbishment construction projects
 •  Assist senior staff in feasibility studies, concept and scheme design stages
 •  Attend design team meetings alongside other staff members
 •  Inspect and report on mechanical building services systems
 •  Undertake Mechanical design work consisting of surveys, design, drawings and specifications for projects
 •  Work in conjunction with other design team members as required as part of an overall project team. Ensure the design and maintenance of building systems meets legislative and health and safety requirements
 •  Utilise Building Services software for calculations
 •  Produce marked up drawings for CAD by others or direct CAD design drawings for issue
 •  Select and specify products, equipment and installation standards relating to Mechanical services suitable for the costing and installation by Contractors
 •  Attend project design meetings, technical meetings, value engineering workshops, and risk workshops as required by the project in conjunction with more senior staff

Who we’re looking for

To be successful in this role you will most likely have a degree (or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering and experience commensurate with the underpinning and knowledge requirements for Incorporated Engineer aligned to either IMechE or CIBSE requirements. Experienced in designing principle mechanical systems taken from a concept level of design through to detailed design including:

 •  Ventilation design
 •  Chilled water
 •  Comfort Cooling design
 •  Domestic hot and cold water systems / Public Health
 •  Heating systems
 •  Above Ground drainage
 •  HVAC control principles
 •  Use of Hevacomp / IES or equivalent
 •  Ability to view and interpret drawings in AutoCAD
 •  Understanding of Building Regulations
 •  Proficient in the use of Microsoft Word, Outlook and Excel
