Essex County Council understand how important flexibility and wellbeing is for our colleagues working across children's Social Care and that we need to think differently. We have therefore developed a nine-day working fortnight for full time frontline Social Workers within Children's services.
This is an exciting opportunity to work across to service areas, initially you will be working with the Children in Care Service. There will be scope after 6 months to work within the Children in care specialist service.
As a specialist Social Worker within the Children in Care team, your role involves working Separated Migrant Young People arriving in Essex. You'll conduct initial needs assessments and age assessments where necessary. Previous experience of Merton compliant age assessment is advantageous but it is not a requirement, training will be provided.
You will be working extensively with Separated Migrant Young People, operating in a trauma-informed, anti-racist manner to address health and educational needs. Additionally, you'll manage a caseload, aiming for positive outcomes while considering Home Office decisions on residency.
Qualifications:
• Diploma or degree in social work, CQSW, CSS, or equivalent.
Experience:
• Working with Separated Migrant Young People and Children in Care.
• Trauma-informed practice.
Registration:
• Registered Social Worker with Social Work England.
Skills and Capabilities:
• Demonstrable practice aligned with current professional standards (e.g., Professional Capability Framework, Knowledge & Skills Statement).
• Proficient case recording.
• Application of social work knowledge with emotional intelligence and analytical skills.
• Confidence in handling challenging social and family situations.
Technology Proficiency:
• Familiarity with information technology and related systems (e.g., Word, SW case recording systems).
Flexibility:
• Willingness to work flexibly, including evenings and weekends if necessary.

The role requires you to be mobile throughout a wider operational area including travelling around the county of Essex and beyond, transporting service users and their belongings and to be able to do so in an emergency.
