Pastoral Support Officer

We are looking to recruit a full time Pastoral Support Officer and Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead. This role will include DDSL responsibilities and Medical AdministrationGeneral Purpose of the Role
To work with staff and parents / carers to provide high quality targeted intervention and support for students in order to ensure that students are safe, meet school expectations and make good progress at school and to be a first aider to assist staff and students who are unwell which will include maintaining all medical records appropriately and liaising with the School Nurse Team.

Specific Duties
 •  To establish constructive working relationships with students and interact with them according to individual needs;
 •  To provide 1:1 support and group support to identified students and maintain records of these interventions;
 •  To act as the key worker in school for identified students, which will involve liaising with other professionals, liaison with parents / carers and setting up / attending relevant meetings;
 •  To support the successful re-integration of students after suspension in collaboration with the Assistant Headteacher (Pastoral);
 •  Support the effective implementation of the school’s Behaviour policy by promoting good student behaviour, dealing promptly with conflict and incidents in line with established policy, manage rewards and sanctions and encourage students to take responsibility for their own behaviour;
 •  To establish constructive relationships with parents/carers;
 •  To liaise with other key staff such as the SENDCo, MAGT Coordinator, EAL Coordinator, Attendance Officer and Head of House to ensure that identified students are receiving appropriate support;
 •  To liaise with relevant Heads of Year, Assistant Heads of Year and tutors to ensure that pastoral support for identified pupils is supported by the wider pastoral team;
 •  To liaise with other members of pastoral team in engaging hard to reach parents –including home visits with the Attendance Officer, Student and Family Support Officer, etc where appropriate;
 •  To work alongside the Attendance Officer to support with monitoring attendance which may include sending letters, making telephone calls, student home visits and general admin support where required;
 •  To liaise with professionals from other agencies, such as CAMHS, Children’s Social Care etc to ensure effective multi-agency working to support students and families;
 •  To work flexible hours to meet the needs of parents and students;
 •  To maintain clear and detailed records, in line with school systems and procedures;
 •  To undertake appropriate professional training and development;
 •  To contribute to relevant in-school staff training;
 •  To oversee the input of rewards system in school, acting as point of contact for students, staff and parents;
 •  Support the induction of in year admission students;
 •  To help run whole school detentions;
 •  To be one of the school’s Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead (DDSL), assisting the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) in all matters of safeguarding and child protection across the school. This will involve taking part in strategy discussions and inter-agency meetings, and contributing to the assessment of children. It will also include participating in ongoing training to ensure that you continue to meet the requirements of this role.
Medical Needs Administrator:
You will be the designated member of office staff who will:
 •  Keep records for students with long term medical needs.
 •  Keep records for students with care plans.
 •  Keep records for students with prescription medication held in school.
 •  Monitor medicines held in school and notify parents / carers if medicines are expired.
 •  Produce a register of medical needs, which will be available to all staff and updated at least annually.
 •  Be responsible for the storage of medication on site in named containers, in a designated place ensuring confidentiality of information and to keep a record of when medication is administered.

And as first aider you will be required:
 •  To administer first aid (must be trained first aider, or willing to undertake training) and accompany students to hospital if necessary.
 •  To assist students who are unwell in school, including contacting parents or carers when a student needs to be sent home.
 •  To complete accident/incident forms accurately and investigate where appropriate or as directed.
 •  To ensure that all accident/incident forms are logged, signed and copies forwarded to the Local Authority or other agencies as appropriate.
 •  To monitor stocks and replenish first aid supplies.
 •  Be first point of contact for the Examinations Officer during exam sessions for students with known medical issues should students require first aid and ensure that students have their medication from the office before entering an exam if required.
 •  Provide medical information to the Trips organiser for students attending trips with known medical issues.
