Service/Ward/Department Summary:

Oak Ward, at The Royal Oldham Hospital, is a 22 bedded newly refurbished all male ward. It operates an inpatient consultant model and sits within a wider Acute Service model, supported by a dedicated Home Treatment service and 24 hour access and crisis service with full A and E Raid team.
The ward delivers a full range of therapeutic interventions and is supported by a dedicated therapy team.

Role Summary:The post holder will be expected to undertake all aspects of the role identified in the job description and meet the requirements of the person specification. The role will be to deliver all aspects of care to the service user group on the wards and to undertake the responsibilities required of a qualified nurse.

The postholder will be responsible for the assessment of needs, planning, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care for patients admitted to the
adult inpatient ward.
The postholder will ensure the highest possible standard of nursing care in
accordance with the Policies and Procedures of Pennine Care NHS Foundation
Trust, the Mental Health Act and Community Care Legislation.
The postholder will participate in clinical supervision and have an active role in the
development of the Nursing Team, including participation in the Educational
Programmes of students and others.

The post holder will be required to comply with the organisations standing order
and standing financial instructions and at all times, deal honestly with the
organisation with colleagues and all those who have dealing with the organisation
including patients, relative and suppliers.
 The post holder must ensure that their behaviour and interests inside and outside
work do not conflict with their Trust position, duties and/or responsibilities.
 The post holder must comply with and support the development of the
performance standards within the service/department to ensure the service is
responsive to and meets the needs of its customers.
 The post holder will be required to develop and maintain good working
relationships with all patients, service users, staff, contractors and where
appropriate, members of the public.
 The Trust aims to maintain the good will and confidence of its own staff, patients, service users, NHS contractors and the general public. To assist in achieving
this objective it is essential that at all times, the post holder carries out their duties
in a courteous, sympathetic and professional manager.
 All post holders who are members of a professional body must comply with
standards of professional practice / conduct. It is the post holders’
responsibilities to ensure they are both familiar with and adhere to these
requirements and maintain their professional membership to the relevant body

To be actively involved in the development of team nursing on the Adult In-patient

ward, assuming the role and responsibility of a named nurse by assessing, planning and implementing programmes of nursing care for individual patients
within your allocated team.
 In collaboration with patients develop individual care plans and refer onto other
agencies as needed.
 Involve families / carers, were appropriate, throughout the admission pathway in
the development of treatment packages, being mindful of their educational needs
and level of support.
 To evaluate and modify nursing care in accordance with the Care Programme
Approach and facilitate the developing discharge plans.

 To actively participate in multi-disciplinary meetings and contribute to clinical
decisions regarding clients in your care.
 To manage caseloads effectively, making the best use of time and resources.

 To ensure that any unresolved issues for clients and their relatives/carers are
identified and referred to the appropriate personnel.
