Purpose of Role:

The role supports the Director of Public Affairs and National Lottery Relations in:

 •  Providing advice and counsel on policy and public affairs matters and issues relevant to Allwyn and The National Lottery; and
 •  Promoting and defending The National Lottery and Allwyn in the public affairs arena.

Department Description:

Responsible for building and managing Allwyn’s and The National Lottery’s reputation. Managing internal and external stakeholder relationships, including the Government, Parliament, the Media, public interest groups and The National Lottery (TNL) distributors.
It does this through identifying and managing reputational risks and developing and implementing a Corporate Affairs strategy aligned with Allwyn’s wider business strategy and commercial objectives.

It also raises awareness of the TNL across a range of media at a national and local level, working with Marketing to promote games and distribution platforms along with special events including rollovers and landmarks. It manages, supports and promotes winners, representing their best interests, ensuring a positive winners experience.
It works with the National Lottery Promotions Unit (NLPU) to raise awareness of good cause distribution across the UK. It is responsible for managing public policy issues, promoting Allwyn’s and The National Lottery’s interests.

Team Description:

 •  The Policy and Public Affairs team takes primary responsibility for Allwyn’s ongoing relationship with Government, Parliament, The National Lottery Family and other key public affairs stakeholders.
 •  The team takes a lead role in shaping Allwyn’s desired policy outcomes and delivers these through developing and implementing appropriate stakeholder engagement plans.
 •  The team also provides internal council to the Executive, and colleagues in the Marketing, Retail, Assurance and Commercial teams.

Requirements

Key Accountabilities or Duties:

 •  Support the Director of Public Affairs and National Lottery Relations to deliver on agreed team outcomes.
 •  Assist the planning, design and execution of specific lobbying initiatives.
 •  Specific responsibility for monitoring, assessing and curating responses to Parliamentarian comment on The National Lottery and its competitors.
 •  Implement on-going contact programme with a diverse range of P&PA stakeholders including in Westminster, Whitehall and the devolved Parliaments to support Allwyn’s objectives.
 •  Represent the company as required in meetings and at events in Westminster, devolved administrations and amongst other relevant P&PA audiences.
 •  Work with relevant Allwyn teams to plan, design and execute future lobbying interests and initiatives.
 •  Use best practice and knowledge to contribute to the scoping and development of Allwyn’s P&PA plan and objectives.
 •  Draft P&PA documents and briefing materials for internal and external use.
 •  Manage P&PA queries from internal and external sources.
 •  Assist in developing Allwyn’s responses to government consultations, authoring responses with input from appropriate Allwyn departments.
 •  Represent the P&PA team on specific internal project teams.

Skills & Experience:

 •  A minimum of 5 years experience as a Policy and Public Affairs professional. First-hand experience of working in a political role in Parliament, government department or equivalent is essential.
 •  Broad and demonstrable knowledge of the UK Parliamentary and legislative process.
 •  Passion for politics and an understanding of how it impacts on the commercial world.
 •  Proven track record of building and managing complex stakeholder relationships to achieve commercial interests.
 •  Proven track record of devising and executing successful lobby campaigns.
 •  Strong intellectual and analytical skills, including the ability to build persuasive arguments in support of a position.
 •  Excellent written and oral communication skills, including an ability to explain clearly and concisely;
 •  Confidence in briefing colleagues and external stakeholders.
 •  Experience of working well within a team.
 •  Proactive approach to developing plans and solutions.
 •  Rigorous attention to detail, particularly when operating under tight timeframes.
 •  Ability to identify key information needed to make decisions.
