JOB DESCRIPTION
SOMETHING ABOUT ME
I am an optimistic and social young man, 31 years old, living in Penarth. I have mobility and sight problems which I try not to let this affect my daily activities. I can walk short distances with a walking stick. However, I am unsteady and need support. I also need to use a manual wheelchair when I am out and about.
As a result of my disabilities, I am limited in the things I can do. However, I’m always looking for new activities that would suit my abilities. I enjoy listening to rock music, watching films and going out and about. You will have great time with me!
PLACE OF WORK
My home and going out and about socially in my local area and occasionally further afield.
PURPOSE OF THE JOB
The purpose of the job is to enable me to try new things, assist me in going out and about socially and to help me find new activities which I will enjoy. By having a PA I will be able to try new things while feeling confident my PA will guide me and enable me to do them safely.
HOURS OF WORK
10 hours per week.
RATE OF PAY
£13.00 per hour
TASKS CAN INCLUDE
• Always ensuring my wellbeing and safety
• Taking me to places in your car or by public transport
• Being physically strong enough to manoeuvre my manual wheelchair.
• Researching different activities and overcoming barriers
• Taking me out socially in the days and early evenings
• Occasionally attending a later event
• Attending the local gym and social groups
TYPE OF PERSON REQUIRED
• Someone who is flexible, reliable and punctual
• Someone who is strong enough to push and lift my wheelchair
• Prefer to have someone with access to a car, but not essential for work purposes
• Someone with similar interests to me
• Someone with a good sense of humour and who is chatty
• The ability to use the internet to research activities is useful
• Someone who will get stuck in and enjoy the time we spend together
ABOUT THE JOB
Though a part-time job, this will be a proper job requiring a National Insurance number to be submitted. A trial period will be necessary in the first instance of 6 months. The wage will be paid 4 weekly on return of a payslip provided by the Centre for Independent Living.
You will receive appropriate holidays and holiday pay. Any necessary training will be provided.
