The Geography department at Stonyhurst is well-resourced with three dedicated and well-equipped Geography classrooms, along with a Departmental office and teacher resource area. There are currently four Geography teachers, delivering a varied and exciting curriculum starting at Year 7.
The Geographer’s ability to analyse and synthesise different information, and the ability to solve problems and communicate both orally and in written form, is an essential skill embedded throughout all key stages. Geography is a very popular choice at Stonyhurst and many of our GCSE pupils will continue to study Geography at A Level.
We presently offer the following examination courses - GCSE Geography AQA (8035), A Level Geography OCR Specification H481.
Pupils studying Geography at Stonyhurst investigate the interdependent links between people and their environment on local, regional and international scales. The subject encompasses the natural processes that shape the planet, the cultural diversity of its inhabitants, and contemporary issues of the environment and development and geopolitics.The Geographer’s ability to analyse and synthesise different information, and the ability to solve problems and communicate both orally and in written form, is an essential skill embedded throughout all key stages. Each year, several Stonyhurst pupils go on to study Geography at university.
We aim to support and extend the learning and interests of all pupils through a range of specially arranged activities, including seminars, lectures, field work, and study-day visits, Geography Society evening discussions, as well as generous provision of extra-support drop-in sessions.Every student at GCSE and A Level has their own online textbooks and exam revision books. They also have full access to a wide selection of online resources.
