apartmentUniversity of Dundee placeDundee calendar_month

An opportunity has arisen to join our friendly and successful respiratory research team investigating the chronic lung disease bronchiectasis with a specific focus on mucociliary clearance and primary ciliary dyskinesia

Our group has a focus on the mechanisms of chronic lung disease and translation of these findings into therapies and patient care. This project will focus on the interactions between mucociliary clearance, infection and inflammation in bronchiectasis and primary ciliary dyskinesia.

The postdoctoral researcher will lead a comprehensive translational programme of work to understand the role of motile cilia dysfunction in patients with bronchiectasis. The project will involve assessment of ciliary function using high speed video microscopy, air liquid interface culture, transcriptomics and proteomics in samples obtained by bronchoscopy from a unique ongoing clinical cohort study, as well as investigation epithelial cells and other clinical samples from patients with genetic ciliary dysfunction (Primary ciliary dyskinesia).

The postholder will generate novel data to understand the mechanisms of ciliary dysfunction and its downstream consequences in terms of inflammation and infection. The project will lead to high impact publications and presentations at international meetings.

The post holder will be expected to deliver all aspects of the project in addition to supervising and supporting PhD students and other members of the research team. The wider respiratory research group consists of a full time statistician/bioinformatician, several technicians and PhD students and 5 other postdoctoral researchers.

We are a translational research group and work closely with colleagues in the NHS.

This role will be most suitable for a post-holder with previous experience of cell biology or microscopy, particularly those with experience of working with ciliated epithelial cells. Postdoctoral researchers are strongly encouraged to undertake training and career development will be supported.

Informal enquiries are encouraged.

Division

The successful applicant will work in a well-funded laboratory with excellent research facilities in the Division of Respiratory Medicine and Gastroenterology.

Location

The post holder will be based within the School of Medicine on the Ninewells Campus.

Principal Duties
