Main Purpose of Job
- To support the Exams Officer with the day –to day operations of the examinations and to ensure a calm environment to give the students the best possible opportunity to be successful.
- To be familiar with the JCQ ICE Booklet and help ensure that the conduct of the exam takes place within these guidelines.
- To assist the Lead Invigilator on conducting examinations in accordance with the Joint Council for Qualifications (JCQ), awarding body and the School’s instructions.
- To play an important role in upholding the integrity of the examination process
- The role of the invigilator is to ensure that the examination is conducted according to these instructions in order to:
- ensure all candidates have an equal opportunity to demonstrate their abilities;
- ensure the security of the examination before, during and after the
- prevent possible candidate malpractice;
- prevent possible administrative failures.
- To report to and be briefed by the Exams Officer prior to each exam session.
- To report to the Exams Office between 8 - 8:30am or 1:00pm.
- To assist in keeping exam papers and materials secure before, during and after exams.
- To ensure exam rooms are set out according to the instructions.
- To assist in admitting candidates in to the exam rooms.
- To help seat candidates in the exams.
- To distribute the correct exam papers and materials to candidates.
- To supervise candidates at all times and be vigilant throughout exams.
- To keep disruption in exam rooms to a minimum.
- To refer to the Lead Invigilator concerning emergencies or irregularities.
- To record/report any disruption or irregularities to the Lead Invigilator.
- To deal with candidate queries in conjunction to the Lead Invigilator.
- To collect exam scripts as instructed.
- To dismiss candidates from the exam room when instructed.
- To help check candidates’ names on scripts match the details on the attendance register.
- At the end of examinations make sure the front pages of answer booklets have been completed correctly, ensure your candidate number and candidate name, in upper case are written clearly on the booklet.
- To attend training, refreshers or review sessions as required.
- To undertake, where required and where able, other duties requested by the Exams Officer or Lead Invigilator, for example;
- supervision of clash candidates between exam sessions
- facilitating access arrangements for candidates, for example as a reader, scribe
- exams-related administrative tasks
- Examinations mainly begin at 9:00 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.
- Invigilators should arrive at school and report to the Exams Office or Hall by 8:30 a.m. or 1:00 p.m. to help set up the rooms.
- Some examinations may not finish until 4:00 p.m.
- Some students may need lunch time supervision if they have a clash of subjects and take a paper in a different session.
- Invigilators may also be asked to act as a chaperone or on a one to one basis with pupils with special needs.
- To undertake general duties, administration and any reasonable task as directed by the Line Manager or Headteacher and to carry out such other tasks as are essential to fulfil the job’s core purpose.
- Participate in training and development, and attend and participate in meetings, as required, including until 5:00 once per week at most, with time taken in lieu.
- Be aware of and comply with policies and procedures, and report all concerns to an appropriate person, in respect of: child protection, health, safety and security, confidentiality, and data protection.
- Contribute to the school’s commitment to equality of access to opportunities to learn and develop for all students.
- Undertake these duties within agreed school objectives, policies and procedures and promote the Schools Equal Opportunities Policy.
- To present a positive impression of the school in all encounters with visitors or on school visits.
- To respond calmly to the challenges of school life.
