Job overview
We are seeking an enthusiastic Practitioner Psychologist to join the Powys Living Well Service. The service works with people who have persistent pain, chronic fatigue and /or significant weight management issues. The successful candidate will work as a core part of a well-established multidisciplinary team providing self-management support and interventions to this population of people, supervision will be provided by an experienced Practitioner Psychologist.The Psychology provision into the team is highly valued and respected, being seen as integral to achieving successful service user outcomes.
This opportunity is open to trainee Psychologists coming up to HCPC registration as a Practitioner Psychologist and other Psychologists seeking a Band 7 or 8a position - the successful candidate will be appointed at the level dependent on their experience.
This opportunity is also available on a preceptorship arrangement from B7-B8a and as such, development opportunities are supported for the successful Psychologist to progress on the 7 / 8a preceptorship pathway.
The post is full-time, however part-time hours will be considered.
Main duties of the job
Provide an assessment, formulation and psychological intervention service to this group of people as a core staff member integrated within the MDT. In addition, the role comprises delivering supervision and training, offering advice and consultation on service users’ psychological care to non-psychologist colleagues and to other, non-professional carers, working within professional guidelines and the overall framework of the team’s policies and procedures.Undertake research, audit and service development as an integral part of service delivery. Promote, both within group and individualised settings, the employment of psychological strategies, to enhance self-management and specifically work with service users that may present with behaviours that may
be deemed challenging, across all sectors of care and who may have complex psychological, social and emotional difficulties.Contribute to teaching, training and supervision of other staff within the Health Board regarding all and any psychological perspectives of long-term condition management.
Participate in any strategic planning aiding to further developments of the Powys Living Well Service within Powys Teaching Health Board.
Band 8a Annex 21To undertake a 12-month training programme to obtain the relevant
professional body training, completion of competencies and experience to meet the Band 8a Senior Practitioner Psychologist in Long Term Conditions management role and all duties as indicated within this job description.

Qualifications and / or knowledge
Essential criteria- Degree in Psychology
- Eligibility for British Psychological Society Chartered status
- Post-graduate Doctorate in Clinical / Counselling Psychology (or its equivalent for those trained prior to 1996 or for those trained overseas), as accredited by the British Psychological Society
- Registered with the Health and Care Professions Council as a Clinical / Counselling Psychologist
- Experience post qualification within a relevant area where skills are transferrable to adults with chronic health conditions
- Clinical supervision training for Doctoral Trainees
- Doctoral level advanced knowledge of clinical psychology theory and practice, psychological therapies and their application, psychometric assessment and interpretation
- Doctoral level knowledge of research design and methodology, including multivariate data analysis as practised within clinical psychology
- Knowledge of relevant legislation and its implications for both clinical practice and professional management
- Evidence of Continuing Professional Development as recommended by the BPS and HCPC
- Or Band 8a Annex 21 Commitment to undertake a development programme to achieve the relevant qualifications, knowledge, skills and experience as within the job description and person specification for this role
- Post-doctoral training courses in specific areas of applied psychology
- Knowledge of the theory and practice of specialised psychological therapies in specific difficult-totreat groups (e.g. personality disorder, dual diagnoses and people with additional disabilities)

Experience
Essential criteria- Substantial assessed experience of working as a qualified clinical / counselling psychologist, normally including significant postqualification experience within the designated speciality where the post is located, or relevant transferable skills
- Experience of working with a wide variety of service user groups, across the whole life course presenting problems that reflect the full range of clinical severity
- Experience in the delivery of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and Third wave therapies with thorough knowledge of behaviour change principles and have sufficient knowledge to train others and create psychological formulations using these models
- Demonstration of further specialist training / experience through having received extensive and demonstrable clinical supervision of working as a clinical / counselling psychologist or an alternative agreed by the Head of Psychology
- Experience of specialised psychological assessment and treatment of a range of clients across a wide range of care settings
- Experience of exercising full clinical responsibility for service users’ psychological care, with experience of co-ordinating care within the context of multidisciplinary c
- Experience of teaching, training and / or supervision
- Experience of application of clinical / counselling psychology in different cultural contexts
- Experience of representing psychology within the context of multidisciplinary care
- Experience of working with adult population either in Mental Health or within Clinical Health Psychology settings
Aptitude and Abilities
Essential criteria- Demonstrate a high level of competence to work within the designated speciality
- Skills in the supervision of other staff including Trainee Clinical / Counselling Psychologists
- Skills in the supervision of Trainee Clinical Psychologists, through attending the University of Wales Clinical Psychology Programme ‘Preparation for Placement’ training
- Well-developed skills in effectively communicating very complex, highly technical and clinically sensitive information, both orally and in writing, to clients, their families, carers and other professional colleagues both within and outside the NHS
- Skills in providing consultation to other professional and nonprofessional groups
- Teach and train others, using a variety of complex multimedia materials suitable for presentations within public, professional and academic settings
- Use a word processing, spreadsheet and presentation packages to an advanced level
