Information Governance Support Assistant
We provide the Research Ethics Service (RES), Confidentiality Advice function, assessments and assurances on behalf of the NHS, and learning, guidance and advice for the research community. Our purpose is to ensure that research involving NHS patients and members of the public is approved through a proportionate and robust system, that they are provided with the information they need to help them decide whether they wish to take part, and that their opportunity to do so is maximised by simplifying the processes by which high quality research is assessed.We have already delivered significant improvements by centralising and simplifying the approval of research in the NHS in England, and are undertaking a range of significant programmes to deliver further improvements.
Job overview
This post will provide support to the Information Governance and Complaints team on a permanent basis. This will include supporting the management of Freedom Of Information Act requests, complaints and data subject rights requests in a timely manner.
The post holder will also be responsible for answering calls to the HRA mainline and directing queries to the appropriate team as well as other administrative duties including supporting meetings.
Home based requests will be considered.
Main duties of the job
The Information Governance & Mainline Support Assistant is responsible for:
- Supporting the Information Governance & Complaints team in the handling of Freedom of Information requests, subject access requests, complaints, and other related matters.
- Providing secretarial support to internal team meetings as required.
- Answering the HRA mainline
- Providing general administrative support to the directorate

Essential criteria- Degree level qualification or portfolio of evidence or equivalent level of experience or achievement
- Information Governance related training or learning

Experience
Essential criteria- Experience of working on a task which required focus, attention to detail and concentration
- Experience of managing requests for information and complaints
- Experience of working with confidential, sensitive or contentious information
- Experience of providing support to teams including compiling agendas and taking notes to a high standard with the ability to record detailed complex and often sensitive information accurately and clearly

Essential criteria- Excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to understand and interpret complex information
- Able to work on own initiative, taking actions and decisions in line with set parameters
Interpersonal
Essential criteria- Excellent interpersonal skills to be able to communicate with a range of external stakeholders including members of the public, patients and research participants concerning sensitive areas
