As an EMHP you will be delivering CBT Evidence-Based Interventions for children and young people, with mild to moderate mental health and behavioural problems, in a range of Education Settings.

You will be helping children and young people within these settings who present with more severe problems to rapidly access more specialist services. Another key part of your role is to support the staff in your allocated Education Settings to identify, and where appropriate, manage issues related to mental health and wellbeing; supporting them to develop whole school approaches to positive mental health.

Working with and within educational environments to afford better access to specialist mental health services. You'll be able to identify and work with low level risk and recognise higher level risk, escalating this appropriately to relevant services.

Main duties of the job

Delivering Evidence-Based Interventions in Educational Settings for children and young people experiencing mild to moderate mental health difficulties.

Developing skills in supporting children and young people experiencing mild to moderate mental health difficulties, their parents/carers, families and educators in the self-management of presenting difficulties.

Developing and practicing Evidence-Based skills and working in partnership with children, young people, their families and educators in the development of treatment plans for the specific intervention and agreeing outcomes.

Work in collaboration with children and young people and where appropriate parents/carers to formulate and develop agreed treatment plan.

Provide individual and group interventions to children and young people experiencing mild to moderate mental health difficulties

Be an active participant in case discussions, multi-agency meetings, and regular supervision to ensure high standards of care.

Applicants must have successfully completed the 1year Post Graduate Certificate 'Education Mental Health Practitioner(EMHP)' course in order to be considered for shortlisting. We welcome applications from qualified EMHP's and Trainee EMHPs who are due to finish or have recently finished their training.

You must have registration as an EMHP or have an in-progress application for registration as an EMHP with BABCP or BPS. This will be verified at interview and during pre-employment checks. It is a mandatory requirement as you are working within an NHS commissioned service.

We are unable to accept applications from children and young people wellbeing practitioners (CWP). The only exception to this is if you are currently working in an MHST service, and your started in this service prior to 1st October 2024. You are only able to gain professional registration for roles that they are qualified to deliver.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Expertise within specialism, underpinned by theory Knowledge of mental health services and procedures gained through training for postgraduate certificate in mental health either Post Graduate Diploma in Educational Health Practice for Children and Young People (EMHP Qualification).
  • BABCP and or BPS registered as an EMHP

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience of managing a caseload of children and young people with a range of mild and moderate mental health needs
  • Working within a community mental health setting
  • Experience of delivering evidence based psychological interventions.
  • Experience of delivering groupbased interventions
  • Experience of providing psychological interventions in Educational Settings.

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Knowledge of mental health issues in young people.
  • Working Knowledge of the educational system in England
  • An understanding of Safeguarding responsibilities and the importance of multiagency working for children and families in the community.

Skills and Abilities

Essential criteria
  • Ability to assess, plan and implement care programmes for young people with complex emotional and/or behavioural difficulties
  • Effective communication skills
  • Ability to recognise own limits and seek appropriate support

What happens if I am offered the position after interview?

The hiring manager will make contact with you to verbally offer you the position. The hiring manager will then inform Recruitment of the decision and provide relevant paperwork. You will be sent a formal conditional offer via email.

What pre-employment checks will I need to complete?

By conducting pre-employment checks, the recruitment team will verify that you meet the pre-conditions of the role you have been offered. Pre-employment checks will be carried out according to NHS Employment Check Standards. The checks are:

  • Identity verification
  • Right to work check
  • Disclosure and barring service (DBS)/Criminal record check (dependent on role)
  • Professional registration and/or qualification check
  • Occupational health assessment
  • Employment history and reference validation

All applicants external to NHS will be required to provide HMRC employment history to cover the most recent three years. This information will used to validate employment history and references as part of pre-employment checks.

What happens when pre-employment checks are complete?
