Role: Principal Safety Engineer

Location: Bristol

Working from home with some requirement to travel for face-to-face meetings (Warrington, Bristol, Plymouth) (~12 times / year)

Rate: Up to £135 per hour via Umbrella (Inside IR35)

Duration: 24-month contract

The role fosters, maintains and is accountable for ensuring application of highest levels of Professional standards, quality and ethics across area of responsibility.

At this level, the role requires expertise within a specialist engineering system, technology or subject area, provides technical governance & overview to ensure capability & capacity are available and fully integrate with other technical areas, systems and technologies.

The role is the subject matter expert for a subject area and requires deep professional expertise, knowledge & experience within an engineering subject area or solution. At this level there might be multiple SMEs within the subject area, with significant demonstrable experience, have substantial demonstrable experience post degree qualification.

Roles and Responsibilities
  • Ensure application of highest standards for health and safety in immediate area of responsibility and ensure all team members across engineering co-operate with respect to company standards about matters on health, safety and environment, ethics and behaviours.
  • Ensure the technical integrity and quality of products and services provided within the area of
  • Plan, lead and control engineering processes and activities to ensure delivery to agreed programme and
  • Support the identification & implementation of improved engineering business processes that enhance group capabilities.
  • Take a lead role in the review, maintenance and upkeep of quality assurance
  • Provide specialist engineering advice in area of technical or operational expertise & experience to the wider Babcock as necessary to maximise knowledge transfer and build operational capability.
  • Provide support for design and safety integration between design houses and safety houses for different design packages.
  • Review and approval of safety case documentation produced by design houses and safety houses (primarily safety house)
  • Management of Safety Case outstanding issues (OISs) and Forward Action Plans (FAPs), including supporting the development of schedules of work to close out FAPs and driving the delivery of those schedules with the design houses and safety house.
