Project Accountant - Bath
Reports to: Assistant Group Financial Controller
Working Hours: 37 hours per week
Purpose of the Job:The Project Accountant will play a critical role within the Group Finance team, focusing on the accounting, reporting, and forecasting of the global D365 implementation programme. This individual will collaborate closely with directors and senior managers to analyze and challenge performance against budgetary expectations.
Key Responsibilities and Outcomes:
Budget and Forecast:
- Lead the development and management of the budget and forecast processes for the D365 programme.
- Collaborate with senior stakeholders across various departments (Business Transformation, IT, Operations, Engineering) to produce rigorous forecasts that withstand scrutiny.
- Maintain an updated schedule of risks and opportunities and work proactively with stakeholders to mitigate risks.
- Challenge and validate assumptions with senior stakeholders to ensure accuracy and feasibility of forecasts.
Monthly Reporting:
- Establish a comprehensive reporting framework to keep senior stakeholders informed about actual costs and forecast progress.
- Analyze variances between actuals and forecasts, providing actionable insights to address any emerging risks.
Cost Control and Governance:
- Design and implement a robust process for the approval of contracts and invoices.
- Review invoices to ensure compliance with approved limits and contractual agreements.
- Manage headcount requests and monitor changes against the approved budget.
Additional Group Support:
- Assist with other Group tasks and projects as required to facilitate the development of the Group and support the Assistant Group Financial Controller.
Qualifications & Technical Knowledge:
Essential:
- Degree-educated and qualified accountant.
- Proficiency in financial reporting systems (e.g., Microsoft D365, SAGE200, OneStream).
- Advanced analytical skills and proficiency in Excel (experience with Power Query or Power BI).
Desirable:
- Experience managing finances for major transformation programmes.
- Familiarity with Power BI.
Personal Specification:

- Results-oriented and highly numerate.
- Self-motivated with the ability to work independently.
- Strong influencing skills and experience in engaging senior stakeholders.
- Capability to identify process improvements and effectively implement change.
Salary and Benefits - £60-70,000pa, 15% bonus, 9% matched pension, PMI, shares.
