Senior Communications Manager
About the job.
Here at National Highways, we are looking to recruit a Senior Communications Manager to join our Regional & Corporate Communications team to cover our South West region.
Senior Communications Managers operate as business partners overseeing and coordinating communications strategies for projects across their region, ensuring seamless collaboration between the communications division and our delivery teams in operations and major projects.You will provide high quality communications advice, challenge, and support helping to ensure that all communications are aligned to the National Highways Communications Strategy and cross-cutting campaigns.
This position will be based in one of our South West offices, either in Bristol or Exeter.- Coordinate the development and delivery of communications plans through matrix working, drawing upon the expertise of specialist functions across Communications and making sure activity is regularly evaluated.
- Work with colleagues from across the business to become a "subject matter expert" of your region, our role in it and the benefits we bring to customers, business, and communities.
- Horizon scan for potential reputational risks and opportunities, working with regional directors and senior leadership teams, to develop plans and processes to mitigate these.
- Working with project, programme and supply chain teams to deliver high quality, engaging communications supporting our core campaigns
- Support the delivery of key business publications, reports and initiatives helping to coordinate activity across the Communications Group
- A team worker, able to work in fast-moving, high-pressure environments
- Ability to build trusted relationships with colleagues and external bodies to meet strategic communications objectives
- Develop communications strategies for key corporate publications and reports
- Excellent writing and briefing skills, including designing and delivering presentations, and an awareness of different communication channels traditional and digital, including social media
- Understanding of the role transport, and roads in particular, play in the local, regional and national economy

External candidates will be offered a starting salary at the lower end of the pay scale, while current employees will be appointed in accordance with our established pay policy.
