Job overview

As a member of our team, you will help deliver highly skilled patient focused care within the Breast Imaging Service throughout Gloucestershire. We have 2 mobile screening units and 4 static rooms with 3 mammography equipment suppliers. We perform Digital Breast Tomosynthesis, Contrast Enhanced Mammograpy and have Tomography guided biopsy capability on 3 mammography units.

The department has a strong research focus and has participated in BRAID/CONTEST/NOSTRA in recent years

Training will be provided to a suitable candidate on a fixed term 24 month contract. On satisfactory completion of the qualification and internal competencies, the candidate will be offered a substantive band 6 radiographer (mammographer) post.

Due to the nature of the work, mammography posts have a gender protected character. This is a genuine occupational requirement and as a result this post is exempt under Schedule 9; Part1 of the Equality Act 2010 and therefore only female applicants over 18 should apply.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will train to perform mammography with precision and speed, at a consistently high technical standard at the Breast Centre and Mobile Screening Units. They will deliver a high-quality service for patients referred to the NHSBSP Breast Screening and Symptomatic breast service.

They will also undertake specialised assessment mammography to the standard required by the service.

They will gain and maintain an excellent level of skill and knowledge in all aspects of Breast Imaging. They will develop and maintain positive professional links with medical and non-medical staff within the unit, and with other departments, to promote the highest service standards and collaborative working.

They will be a positive ambassador for the Breast Service and maintain a positive attitude toward work.

Mammography is undertaken for the Gloucestershire Breast Imaging service at mobile sites across Gloucestershire and the Breast Imaging Centre in Cheltenham, and the post holder will need to be able to travel independently to all of these locations.

Working for our organisation

We have a friendly dynamic team which invite around 30000 screening patients to attend for mammography each year, in addition to providing all symptomatic mammograms for the whole of Gloucestershire.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • BSc Radiography/Radiotherapy or Diploma of the College of Radiographers
  • HCPC Registration
  • Willingness to study for Level 7 Postgraduate qualification in Mammography

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Appropriate post qualification experience in NHS Radiology department
  • Evidence of Continuing Professional Development and interest in Breast Imaging
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of a Breast Screening Service or a Breast Symptomatic Service
  • Experience of using departmental computerised patient systems - NBSS, PACS and CRIS

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

Essential criteria
  • Able to use all forms of radiographic equipment and the manual dexterity to be able to assist with biopsies
  • Evidence of a high standard of radiography
  • Able to work under pressure with accuracy whilst maintaining a cheerful and empathetic disposition
  • Able to think quickly and assess clinical situations.
  • Consistently demonstrate excellent communication abilities
  • Ability to travel throughout Gloucestershire
