Job overview

Role Summary:

The overarching aim and purpose of the role of Equality, Diversity & Inclusion (EDI) Midwife is to support OUH maternity to achieve equity of health outcomes for all social groups accessing our Maternity Service; targeting support and interventions to the most disadvantaged groups to improve service quality and address inequalities of access, service provision and healthcare outcomes.

The EDI Midwife will participate in the design, development and evaluation of a new continuity of carer team for specific groups of service users including those from a global majority, LGBTQ+, or disabled background. The case loading model will include continuity of carer, with the ultimate aim of improving outcomes for women and their babies.

In addition, meet the key performance indicators both locally and nationally.

Whilst the EDI Midwife will be based within Maternity working closely with maternity colleagues, they will be a key contributor to Trust wide EDI activities, supporting and working in collaboration with the Trust EDI team, Staff Inclusion Networks and other key internal and external stakeholders to deliver the parts of the NHS People Plan pertaining to Equality, Diversity and Inclusion.

Main duties of the job

  • The postholder will have a remit in supporting the maternity unit to understand the experiences of marginalised staff groups and liaise with the senior teams and equality, diversity and inclusion team in the wider Trust to help develop strategies to improve this.
  • · The postholder will surface patient experience issues relevant to health inequalities for childbearing women and birthing people. This will involve establishing effective and trusted channels of communication with childbearing women, pregnant people and their families, and ensuring all midwives are aware of the services and pathways being developed and offered.
