Buyer - Horticulture
£45,200 - £50,000 plus excellent benefits (Work Level 5)
Manchester city centre, in this role you'll work in a hybrid way splitting your time between home, coming into our Manchester office at least twice a week and visiting our suppliers (find out more about our hybrid working policy at colleagues.coop.co.uk/hybrid-working-policy).

12 month fixed-term contract

We're looking for a Buyer to join us and use your expertise within our experienced buying team. Our buying teams are responsible for providing our customers with the products that they love, and this role offers a rare opportunity for you to see the results of your hard work paying off every time you step into one of our stores and see your products on the shelves.

We'll look to you to collaborate and build meaningful relationships with exciting suppliers within our high-profile Horticulture category, gaining incredible exposure across the business as you go. You'll also be a line manager, responsible for supporting one of our Buying Assistants.

If you can bring us a passion for floral and a creative mindset, we can offer you a chance to develop your skills in a business that puts people at the heart of everything we do.

What you'll do
  • Work seasonally and plan around calendar events, such as Valentines Day, Mother's and Father's Day
  • Look for ways to improve challenges around availability and waste whilst working collaboratively with our suppliers across the world
  • Take responsibility for profit and loss (P&L) for products within your designated category
  • Act as a key link between internal and external partners, building strong relationships
  • Manage the sales, margin and ranges for your category and take responsibility for a large P&L
  • Link in with various teams across the business to make sure that processes are running smoothly
  • Lead the supplier base to deliver core goals through a market leading sales plan
  • Make sure the category strategy is delivered as planned - on time and to budget by working collaboratively with your colleagues and suppliers
This role would suit people who have
  • A creative and commercial approach with a passion for floral
  • Great networking and relationship building skills, with the ability to work well in a team and influence others
  • A flexible and resilient approach to work, with the ability to react quickly and deliver results
  • The ability to draw insight from data, and communicate findings in an engaging way
  • Experience of legal compliance and GSCOP regulations

Why Co-op?

If you have the skills that we need, we can offer you a competitive salary and great benefits package which includes 30% off Co-op branded products in our food stores (as well as other discounts on Co-op products and services).
  • An annual bonus (based on personal and business performance)
  • 28 days holiday (rising to 32 with service) plus bank holidays
  • A pension with up to 10% employer contributions
  • Access to a subsidised onsite gym (at our Manchester HQ)
  • Coaching and training to support your career development
  • Wagestream app - giving you access to a percentage of your pay as you earn
