Clinical To provide specialist psychological and psychosexual assessments of clients, together with their partners and carers as appropriate, using interview, formal psychometric and other assessment methods as appropriate. To formulate and devise psychological and psychosexual treatment and management plans for referred clients and to provide psychological treatment, using a range of specialist psychological interventions appropriate to the service.
To provide specialist psychological advice, guidance, consultation and supervision to colleagues and other professionals, to assist in the formulation, diagnosis and treatment of clients. To provide specialist consultation and guidance to colleagues and other professionals on psychological/psychosexual intervention.
To provide reports and communicate in a skilled and sensitive manner information concerning the assessment, formulation and treatment plans of clients. To liaise with other health and social care staff, from a range of agencies, in the care provided to clients.
Teaching, training, and supervision To receive regular clinical professional supervision from a senior clinical psychologist and, where appropriate, other senior professional colleagues. To provide clinical placements for trainee clinical psychologists, as required, ensuring the trainees acquire the necessary skills, competencies and experience to contribute effectively to health care, and to contribute to the assessment and evaluation of such competencies.
To provide clinical supervision of trainee psychologists and psychosexual therapy trainees as required. To continue to develop skills in the area of professional post-graduate teaching, training and clinical supervision. To provide advice, consultation, training and supervision to other health and social care staff working with the client group (e.g. nurses, doctors, psychologists) and within the trust, as appropriate.
To contribute to teaching and training of psychologists and other health professionals within and outside of the service. Management, Recruitment, Policy and Service Development To contribute to the development, evaluation and monitoring of the services operational policies and services, through the deployment of professional skills in research, service evaluation and audit.
To advise both service and professional management on those aspects of the service where psychological and/or organisational matters need to be addressed. To manage the workloads of trainee psychologists and psychosexual therapists, within the framework of the services policies and procedures.
Research and service evaluation To use theory, evidence-based literature and research to support and critique evidence-based practice in individual work and work with other team members. To undertake appropriate research and provide research advice to other staff undertaking research.
To undertake project management, including complex audit and service evaluation, with colleagues within the service to help develop and evaluate service provision. General To ensure the development and maintenance of the highest personal standards of practice, through active participation in internal and external CPD training and development programmes, in consultation with the postholders professional and service manager(s).
To contribute to the development and articulation of best practice in psychology within the service area, by exercising the skills of a reflexive and reflective scientist practitioner, taking part in regular professional supervision and appraisal and maintaining an active engagement with current developments in the field of clinical psychology and related disciplines.
To maintain the highest standards of clinical record keeping including electronic data entry and recording, report writing and the responsible exercise of professional self-governance in accordance with professional codes of practice of the HCPC and Trust policies and procedures.
