In conjunction with Salford University we are pleased to offer a seconded development opportunity to the Apprenticeship PgDip Specialist Practice Programme (District Nursing pathway).
This is an exciting opportunity, with the programme delivered through the apprenticeship route. This will enable students to achieve the knowledge, skills and clinical competencies to practice safely and effectively in the area of Specialist Practitioner Qualification/ District Nursing.
You will need to demonstrate knowledge of current issues within the NHS, Community Nursing, and their potential influence on District Nursing, together with a commitment to study at level 7
Main duties of the job
The post holder is required to complete the District Nurse PGDip Apprenticeship programme through education and work-based learning successfully. They are to meet all the gateway requirements when advised by their employer and undertake the end assessment EPA.The apprentice will work in an allocated District Nursing team conducive to learning that will meet their core skills, knowledge, and behaviour relevant to the programme specialism meeting the needs of contemporary healthcare for individuals, communities, and populations.
The apprentice will work alongside a Practice Supervisor (Band 6 CSP) who has responsibility for a designated caseload of patients within the neighbourhood. The Practice assessor will confirm student achievement of proficiencies and programme outcomes for practice learning, informed by feedback sought and received from practice supervisors and work in partnership with the nominated academic assessor to evaluate and recommend the student for progression for each part of the programme.

Entry Attainments
Essential criteria- Current first level registration in Adult Nursing registered with the NMC
- Minimum qualification of a Diploma in Nursing
- GCSE Mathematics and English Language (grade A*-C/9-4) or equivalent.
- Functional skills (Maths and English at level 2)
- 12 months post registration experience
- Experience of working in a community setting in the last 2 years.
- A first degree in a relevant subject, with a minimum of a lower second classification (2:2)
- Evidence of recent academic study in the last 3 years
- Experience of working within a District Nursing team.
Knowledge & Skills
Essential criteria- Understanding of clinical governance and how this contributes to practice.
- Awareness of the local and national strategic direction in relation to District Nursing.
- Knowledge of factors requiring consideration in planned change
- Has an awareness of the knowledge and skills required by a leader?
- Completion of a leadership module.
