We have a post for a Digital Communications Officer to join the busy communications and engagement team within Cardiff and Vale UHB and focus on the Keeping Me Well project, working closely with our therapies teams. The post is new to the organisation to increase the engagement with our staff and communities of the Keeping Me Well project and website,

The successful candidates will be required to produce effective communications and have knowledge of social marketing; modern methods of digital communication and engagement will be essential.

They will also have strong skills in website development and CMS platforms.

The post holders will be based with the Communications and Engagement Team at Woodland House, Maes y Coed Road, Cardiff.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Main duties of the job

This role requires a digital communications professional to plan and implement digital communications on behalf of the Keeping Me Well project. It requires delivery of the corporate e-communication functions, including design and content management of existing platforms used by the organisation (website, Intranet, digital screens, videos etc).
The role will also develop, implement, maintain and evaluate innovative digital communication campaigns, making best use of new media opportunities. Digital communications will be tailored for a wide range of audiences so that they engages staff, stakeholders, media and the public.

The post-holder will support training to enable other digital champions within the organisation to maintain online platforms and undertake digital communication projects. The individual will be able to provide advice to others within the organisation on digital communications, linking closely with managers, staff and committees.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
  • Plan digitally based communication activities that are responsive to internal staff and external customers, balancing the need for proactive service development and the reactive demand of operational responsibilities.
  • Influence and persuade committees and staff on appropriate digital communication approaches.
  • Possess a political awareness and understanding of the complex NHS and political issues and changing strategic situations and adapt messages on digital channels accordingly.
  • Support delivery of the mechanisms to deal with digital internal and external web and social media enquiries, ensuring a responsive service to internal and external customers. In responsive situations (major reputational issue), participate in the communication department’s wider communication enquiry service.
  • Maintain structure, content, functionality and accessibility of the health board’s digital communication channels – including websites, Intranet and social media; ensuring accuracy and that accessibility and navigation are compliant with recognised web usability and accessibility standards.
  • Be an expert user of the content management system (CMS), and positively input to ongoing improvement and development

Essential criteria
  • Educated to degree level in relevant field (communications, digital communications, or IT), or equivalent level of work experience including practical knowledge and experience of methods and approaches as they relate to digital communications and public relations.

Experience and skills

Essential criteria
  • Previous experience of working in a communications team. Evidence of providing communication services across digital channels with a proven track record. Proven track record in development and delivery of effective electronic communications as part of a proactive campaign. Experience of creating basic graphic design to help communicate messages. Basic video shooting and editing experience.

  • Strong communication skills – both written and oral – to communicate and engage positively with leading clinicians and professionals, wider staff, the public and other internal and external stakeholders Report writing and presentation skills Ability to convey complex information clearly and concisely to a wide range of audience, tailored to their needs.
