Speech and Language Therapy Assistant

To independently carry out routine group and some individual therapy activities following aims set by the therapists, working with clients with a range of communication and other needs To carry out specified observation and information gathering to contribute to the therapists assessment.

To report back to therapists at defined intervals to enable modification of level of intervention To demonstrate input to other educators and parents/carers. To prepare and organise materials, information and accommodation for presentations by therapists To carry out aspects of training according to pre-designed plan in conjunction with therapists To maintain up-to-date and accurate case notes in line with professional standards and local Trust policies To gather activity data accurately and regularly, ensuring the provision of such information promptly within local Trust guidelines KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS Communication and relationship skills1.

To liaise with other professionals, support staff, parents and carers, ensuring that they understand the therapy work programme, under the supervision of the therapists2. To form productive relationships with others who may be under stress and/or have challenging communication difficulties and motivate them in to engage in work programmes Knowledge, training and experience1.
To identify, with support, personal/professional development evidenced by Personal Development Plan/ Professional Portfolio developed within an appraisal framework2. To participate in Appraisal, ensuring that the objectives set reflect the Service and Trust plans3.
To attend relevant training and development in order to maintain/ further develop skills in implementing, and knowledge of therapy procedures/ programmes4. To have awareness of relevant procedures/statutory requirements including: Safeguarding Children, SEN procedures, and other legal frameworks Analytical and judgmental skills1.
To recognise potential breakdown and conflict when it occurs and seek advice and support from supporting therapists to resolve it2. To analyse patients response to treatment and feedback suggested changes to delivery to therapists Planning and organisational skills1.

To manage a prioritised and specified caseload with support from therapists Physical skills1. To use IT support effectively to extend therapy programmes/activities 2. To apply skills in handling clients with disabilities with support2. To manage and prioritise own workload
