Job overview

The primary aim of the Digital Project Manager is to lead the delivery of often complex and large-scale Digital Transformation projects and consultancy assignments. They will provide clear leadership and direction to delivery teams and manage project plans and budgets.

The post holder will share the ethos and values of NHS SCW and will be able to bring the skills, experience, and subject matter expertise they have developed in their career, to support the team to deliver quality services.

Role can be delivered in a flexible hybrid way with any travel, site visits or meetings arranged by agreement on a very occasional basis.

Main duties of the job
  • To plan, monitor and control digital projects using project management methodologies e.g. PRINCE2, Agile, APM, relevant to the project/assignment and appropriately scaled
  • Ensure appropriate project governance is in place and set the project management standards to work to
  • Manage, develop and assign digital work packages
  • Monitor dependencies, risks, issues and divergence from project plans, replanning as required
  • Organise, manage and provide clear direction to delivery team resources drawn from internal and external partner organisations
  • Manage project income and expenditure adhering to financial controls and reporting
  • Able to understand end user requirements and set the approach needed to successfully deliver digital solutions and transformational change
  • Provide digital subject matter expert advice to SCW and other stakeholders in relation to Project Management, processes and procedures.
  • Monitor and regularly report on project progress – including reporting and presenting to project/programme boards and senior stakeholders
  • Able to produce high quality and well written products for a range of stakeholders and effectively translate and communicate complex information

Working for our organisation

This role sits within the Transformation Directorate, which has approximately 250 people working across a range of professional disciplines within the transformation and consultancy space. The post holder will be allocated a Career Development Manager to support them pastorally and to support them on their career journey and they will report into an Assignment Manager for each project they are assigned to.

The post holder will play an essential part in the effective delivery of impactful projects and consultancy assignments across health and care. The team has grown rapidly over the last couple of years in response to increasing customer demand and due to the committed and hard-working nature of the team, for which personal development is important.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
  • Able to write and input into products including for example, business cases, options appraisals, cost benefit analysis and impact assessments in support of specific projects and assignments
  • Effectively analyse and summarise information from a wide range of sources (conference papers, national guidance, local policies and standards, financial reports and budgets, technical specifications and capabilities)
  • Foster collaboration between partner organisations in the delivery of digital specific projects and assignments

NHS SCW offers agile and hybrid ways of working. Hybrid working is a type of flexible working where employees blend working from different locations. It offers the employee the ability to choose to work wherever and however they are most productive, whether it be in an office, at home, or a customer site.

Office location can be flexible within the NHS SCW estate and will be agreed upon offer of contract.

NHS SCW staff that are in posts considered to be agile will not be expected to attend office space for general working but will be required on occasions to attend face to face meetings and collaborative working sessions that may require travel to their home base or other locations across the estate or customer sites.
