The opportunity has arisen for a Band 6 Occupational Therapist (OT) to join the medicine and surgery team at Stepping Hill Hospital.

This post is ideal for a current Band 6 or a Band 5 OT who is ready to progress in their career.

Main duties of the job

We are a proactive, friendly and welcoming team comprising of Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists, Technical Instructors and Therapy Assistants covering the medical and surgical specialities:

  • Gastroenterology
  • Acute Respiratory
  • Cardiology
  • Endocrinology
  • Medicine
  • Elderly medicine

The successful candidate will gain experience across all these areas to challenge, invest in and develop them.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The Organisational Development Team is developing new opportunities to invest in AHP workforce to have equal opportunities. The Trust offers you access to an excellent library with full time librarians to assist you with your own development and that of your teams.

Within the team we have a robust in-service training package you will be accessible to you and further support your learning.

If successful this vacancy will require an enhanced DBS check at a cost of £54.50. This cost will be deducted from your first Trust salary.

In addition to this it will be a condition of your employment that you will join the DBS update service and pay the annual subscription fee of £16.

Person specification

Education & Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Diploma/Degree in Occupational Therapy
  • State Registration with the Health and Care Professions Council.
  • Evidence of CPD postgraduate learning related to physical/psychological health
Desirable criteria
  • Membership of RCOT
  • Awareness of relevant specialist interest groups

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Knowledge and application of standardised assessments for specific conditions.
  • Knowledge of therapy outcome measures for specific conditions
  • Knowledge of Nice Guidance, current research and recommended practice
  • Knowledge of the principles of clinical governance.
  • Knowledge of discharge planning processes, intermediate care and community/support services.

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Previous experience as a Band 5 Occupational Therapist
  • Experience working with conditions with complex symptom presentation
  • Experience working with individuals with Long Term Health Conditions and conditions within allocated specialities
  • Experience supporting junior staff, support staff
  • Post registration experience in speciality
  • Experience of working as part of a Multidisciplinary team.
Desirable criteria
  • Experience supporting students.
  • Experience of research or audit.

Skills & Abilities

  • Understanding of team dynamics.
  • Ability to work autonomously and set own priorities.
  • Ability to reflect and critically appraise own performance.
  • Application of health, safety and risk management policies.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within the integrated therapy team and multi-disciplinary team.
  • Supervisory, training and facilitation skills.
