We’re offering an amazing opportunity to join our charity as a Technical Administrator in our Infrastructure & Programmes team. Your role, you will be providing the business with administration and internal customer service support, assisting all functional departments in achieving Canal & River Trust’s aims to increase the number of people using the waterways and improve safety whilst protecting the heritage, environment, and integrity of our unique inland waterways network.
The Infrastructure & Programmes, Business Support team help to support the following teams, consisting of approximately 500 colleagues in the following teams:
- Direct Services
- Project Delivery
- Asset Management
- Programme Management Office
The post required is to predominantly support the teams that sit within Direct Services but will also be required to support other areas of Infrastructure & Programmes as and when required.

Location
The role offers the opportunity and flexibility to predominantly work from home, with occasional time spent in a nearby Hub for collaborative working in either Birmingham, Newark, Hatton, Leeds, Burnley or Gloucester. (whichever is nearest to where you live).
Travel will occasionally be required within the region for site visits, events and meetings. It is therefore essential that you are able to effectively work from home, whilst also having the flexibility to be mobile when necessary.

Knowledge, Skills/Qualifications & Experience :
Key responsibilities:
- Operate business processes accurately and to scheduled deadlines using appropriate business systems within your area of expertise e.g. Shared Service processes, Leisure Business, Estates or Finance. Ensure data and information is input accurately and in a timely manner. Produce relevant documents in a timely manner using MS office.
- Provide technical administration support for a specific professional discipline, applying specialist knowledge to achieve accurate and high-quality work e.g. bank reconciliations, reports. Work in a timely manner ensuring compliance with relevant policies and procedures e.g. procurement.
- Within a functional area, review and redesign business processes to ensure efficient business support by liaising with key stake holders. Ensure processes comply with appropriate internal and external requirements.
- Deal with confidential information ensuring all data is processed and protected appropriately e.g. journals, invoices, job costing.
- Communicate effectively with customers, suppliers and a wide range of colleagues, in person or using other appropriate methods of communication, to deal with routine queries and problems. Take messages and impart information or otherwise acting appropriately. Ensure compliance with standards set for customer contact to ensure customer queries are dealt with effectively and closed satisfactorily.
- Design, produce and maintain reports. Collate and analyse data to ensure business receives relevant information, checking accuracy of data and integrity of reports produced.
- Support other team members in other administration tasks.
About you:
Technical:
- Educated to A level standard or equivalent e.g. NVQ Level III Business Administration, advantageous.
- A confident communicator with excellent organisational and planning skills.
- Comprehensive IT skills and knowledge of business applications.
- Knowledge of or experience in SAP functions and reports is desirable but not essential.
General:
- Comply with Canal & River Trust Health & Safety policy and defined standards, report incidents, accidents and near misses.
- Assess the risks and make adjustments to work methods where appropriate.
- Ensure all equipment (PPE, plant, materials etc.) is appropriate for the task.
- Consider your own and others behaviour.
- To be aware of your own responsibilities regarding safeguarding and to support our commitment to providing safe environments and working practises that promote and protect the safety and welfare of children, young people and adults at risk at all time.
