Festivals Night Duty Manager

Contract type: Freelance

Location: This is an onsite freelance role to support our delivery at Glastonbury Festival. There may be further opportunities at our wider festival programme June – August.

Our office is based at 20 Canada Square, Canary Wharf, London, E14 5NN and our equipment store is in Bow, London.

You may be required to travel from our office/store to the festival site – driving a Luton van.

Salary: UK, £200 - £300 per day

About the Team

The WaterAid Special Events team is responsible for the management and delivery of unique festivals partnerships and special events.

About the Role

As our proactive and resourceful Festivals Duty Manager you will oversee teams of volunteers delivering essential WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene) services and ensure smooth operations with swift, effective resolution of any issues.

In this role, you will act as the Onsite Incident Manager, responding to incidents and safeguarding concerns, as well as lead shifts, coordinate with HQ teams, and liaise with festival organisers and stakeholders.

You’ll also:

  • Support the build and break of WaterAid areas
  • Oversee volunteer arrivals, briefings, and training
  • Ensure compliance with health, safety, and safeguarding regulations
  • Troubleshoot operational challenges to maintain seamless service delivery
  • Create a safe and rewarding environment for volunteers and staff

Requirements

To be successful, you’ll need:

  • Proven experience of working at live event sites, preferably multi-day festivals
  • Strong understanding of event logistics, operations, and incident management protocols
  • Experience leading and managing volunteers and/or staff at events
  • Excellent communication and decision-making skills
  • Good understanding of health and safety, risk assessment, and safeguarding best practices

Although not essential, we also prefer you to have:

  • A full driving license
  • First Aid qualification
