We are looking for an enthusiastic and dynamic Emergency Medicine Doctor to work at the Bedford Hospital Site Emergency Department. You must be dedicated to providing high quality emergency care, maintaining clinical standards, and continually looking to drive positive change by developing the service.

This is an exciting challenge for an Emergency Medicine Doctor who is keen to be at the heart of delivering a modern emergency medicine service across resus, majors, ambulatory majors, minor injuries, paediatrics and oversight of our Urgent Treatment Centre (UTC).

Your job will include a combination of direct clinical care, clinical education and personal development activities designed to support your career progression alongside delivery of the department’s service objectives.
  • The Clinical Fellows are involved in the initial diagnosis and management of all patients attending the department. The Clinical Fellow will rapidly gain valuable experience in managing medical and surgical emergencies, trauma and minor injuries. Resuscitation of the acutely ill or injured are taught on a regular basis and there will be many opportunities to develop these skills. Senior medical support is always available and their involvement is encouraged especially during the Clinical Fellow’s first month of tenure.
  • Admission of observation patients under the A&E consultants - The A&E Clinical Fellow should follow up these patients and co-ordinate their discharge under the direct supervision of senior A&E staff.
  • Membership of the hospital’s trauma team to treat major trauma cases
  • Supervision and teaching of medical students is an enjoyable part of the Clinical Fellow’s responsibility although formal tutorials are organised by the specialist registrar and consultants.
  • The preparation of police reports is a useful skill to learn during the Clinical Fellows tenure. The preparation and remuneration is co-ordinated by the Consultants’ secretary.
  • All patients who are discharged should receive a GP letter summarising their diagnosis and management.
  • Duties in occasional emergencies and unforeseen circumstances at the request of the consultant or specialist registrar. Such additional commitments arising would be exceptional and short-lived.

Our Trust provides hospital services to a growing population of around 700,000 people living across Bedfordshire and the surrounding areas across two busy hospital sites in Bedford and Luton. Travel between hospital sites may be required.

We have state-of-the art facilities placing us at the heart of cutting edge health care. The Trust continues to be committed to delivering the best patient care using the best clinical knowledge and technology available.

Please note that vacancies may close prior to the advertised closing date when sufficient number of applications have been received. Please ensure that you make your application as soon as possible.
